Technician Development Program Manager

Position Summary

The Technician Development Program Manager (TDPM) leads the strategy, design, governance, and delivery of technician development programs across the organization. This role is responsible for establishing technician skill standards, progression pathways, and validation processes that ensure technicians are equipped to deliver high-quality repairs and service.

The TDPM partners with field leaders, District Service Development Managers (DSDMs), training teams, recruiting partners, and OEMs to build scalable development programs, strengthen technician capability, and drive consistent execution across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Technician Development Strategy & Leadership

  • Align DSDMs, operations leaders, and training partners around technician development priorities and standards.
  • Establish and maintain technician skill standards, progression criteria, and validation requirements.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and authority on technician capability and advancement expectations.
  • Drive consistency and accountability in technician development practices across all regions.

Program Design & Training Delivery

  • Design, implement, and continually improve scalable technician development programs, learning pathways, and assessments.
  • Identify technician performance gaps and develop solutions that improve capability, repair quality, and operational performance.
  • Deliver instructor-led and hands-on technical training aligned to progression requirements and business needs.
  • Partner with training teams to develop curriculum, learning tools, and practical training experiences.
  • Ensure training content remains current with equipment, technology, and industry advancements.

Performance Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor technician progression, program effectiveness, repair quality metrics, and development trends.
  • Identify capability gaps, recurring performance issues, and organizational risks, implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Provide leadership with insights, recommendations, and reporting on technician development outcomes.
  • Continuously improve development programs using field feedback, performance data, and industry best practices.

Partnerships & Talent Pipeline Development

  • Build relationships with trade schools, vocational programs, and technician workforce partners.
  • Support recruiting and workforce development initiatives through aligned training and development programs.
  • Maintain partnerships with OEMs to ensure timely access to technical training and product expertise.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in technical training, workforce development, field service operations, or technician development.
  • Experience designing and delivering instructor-led training programs.
  • Strong stakeholder management, facilitation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to analyze performance data and translate findings into actionable development solutions.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, including visits to branches, training locations, field operations, trade schools, and partner facilities.

Preferred

  • Experience working in service, maintenance, equipment, transportation, logistics, or industrial environments.
  • Experience with competency-based learning, certification programs, or technician progression frameworks.
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies.
