Description

About The Role:

Draganfly Innovations Inc. is looking for a Technical Writer & Publications Specialist to manage our controlled documentation system and turn technical, operational, engineering, and regulatory information into clear, accurate publications. Reporting to the Manager, Flight Operations and supporting multiple teams, this role owns the documentation lifecycle, including authoring, formatting, review coordination, revision control, and controlled distribution.

You will ensure employees always have access to the correct, approved, and current manuals, procedures, checklists, training materials, and related publications. You will work closely with subject matter experts across Flight Operations, Engineering, Product, Quality, and Regulatory teams, while technical authorities remain responsible for final content approval and accuracy.

Success in this role means maintaining high-quality, consistent, traceable documentation and ensuring updates from engineering changes, regulatory requirements, safety findings, and operational lessons are captured on time.

Key Responsibilities:

Publication Authoring
  • Write and maintain SOPs, flight operations manuals, aircraft manuals, emergency procedures, regulatory support documents, training materials, quick-reference guides, checklists, and field-support instructions.
  • Translate complex technical information into clear, operator-focused instructions.

Document Control & Lifecycle
  • Maintain document templates, publication standards, formatting consistency, review workflows, and revision control.
  • Manage document repositories, controlled distribution, master publication lists, numbering schemes, and current revision status.
  • Ensure obsolete documents are removed or clearly identified so teams do not use superseded versions.

Change, Configuration & Visual Content
  • Track updates from engineering changes, regulatory requirements, safety findings, and operational lessons learned.
  • Maintain alignment between product versions and related publications, including change logs with source, rationale, approver, and effective date.
  • Collect input from subject matter experts and develop supporting illustrations, diagrams, photos, and other visual instructional content.

Who are you really?
  • You are a strong technical writer who can turn complex information into clear, user-friendly documentation.
  • You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and focused on accuracy, consistency, and version control.
  • You are process-driven, collaborative, and comfortable working with subject matter experts across departments.
  • You are proactive, curious, and able to manage multiple priorities while keeping documentation projects moving forward.

Qualifications:
  • 4+ years of technical writing or controlled-publications experience, ideally in aviation, aerospace, defense, or a regulated technical field
  • Demonstrated ownership of document control, revision control, and review/approval workflows
  • Ability to interview subject-matter experts and convert complex technical input into clear procedures
  • Strong command of templates, formatting standards, and publication consistency
  • Equivalent military, technical, or aviation documentation experience may substitute for a four-year degree
  • Ability to travel approximately 10-20% to observe procedures, capture photography, and validate instructions

Preferred Specializations
  • Experience with UAS or aircraft operating documentation, checklists, or flight manuals
  • Familiarity with configuration management and document-control systems
  • Working understanding of Part 107, SMS principles, and UAS operating documentation
  • Skills in illustration, diagramming, or basic technical graphics tools
  • Experience supporting audits or regulated documentation environments

Compensation Package:
  • Competitive salary: $75,000 - 90,000 USD
  • Health Coverage Reimbursement: We reimburse the cost of your existing or preferred healthcare plan (amount varies depending on family size).
  • 401(k) program with employer matching
  • Generous time-off program, including vacation, wellness days, and the week off between Christmas and New Year's.
  • Professional development support, including assistance in obtaining or maintaining role-relevant certifications (e.g., FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, where applicable)

Compensation

$75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
