Full Job Description
This role is ideal for an underwriting or analytical professional looking to blend traditional risk assessment with modern data techniques while supporting the underwriting of contingency risks. Working closely with senior underwriters, you will assist with risk analysis, policy administration, and broker service. Crucially, you will leverage data logic to optimize our pricing frameworks and underwriting models, developing the technical proficiency needed to assume greater underwriting authority over time.
Key Responsibilities

Underwriting& Risk Analysis
  • Assist in underwriting new and renewal business within established underwriting guidelines and authority levels.
  • Evaluate submissions by reviewing exposures, coverage requirements, and underlying technical data.
  • Develop an advanced understanding of pricing methodologies, risk selection, and coverage analysis.
  • Contribute to the refinement of risk scoring frameworks and predictive pricing models using data-driven logic.
  • Maintain accurate underwriting files and documentation.
  • Monitor outstanding underwriting requirements and follow up for needed information.
  • Assist with bordereaux reporting, premium tracking, portfolio, and exposure management activities.
  • Issue binders, endorsements, policy documentation, and invoices accurately and timely.


Data Engineering & Portfolio Insights
  • Maintain, query, and analyze underwriting data structures to identify risk trends and portfolio performance metrics.
  • Assist in translating complex historical claim and exposure data into actionable risk-selection logic.
  • Support business planning and forecasting by preparing structured underwriting data, reports, and portfolio analytics.
  • Conduct research and gather external data points to enhance internal predictive modeling efforts.


Broker & Client Service
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with brokers and internal business partners.
  • Respond promptly to broker inquiries and assist in resolving underwriting or policy servicing questions.


Portfolio & Administrative Support
  • Maintain awareness of claims activity affecting assigned accounts.
  • Assist senior underwriters in gathering information related to claims that may impact underwriting decisions.


Compliance
  • Ensure all underwriting activities comply with company underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with company standards.


Professional Development
  • Participate in training opportunities to expand technical underwriting knowledge.
  • Develop expertise in contingency products, policy forms, and underwriting best practices.
  • Progress toward increased underwriting authority through demonstrated technical proficiency and sound judgment.


Qualifications
  • 1-3 years in an analytical, underwriting, actuarial support, or insurance operations role.
  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Finance, Risk Management, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Analytics) or equivalent experience.

  • Experience using carrier rating systems, broker portals, or agency management systems is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively while developing independent underwriting judgment.
  • Eagerness to learn and build a career in specialty underwriting.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Working toward or interested in pursuing professional insurance or quantitative designations (such as CPCU, AU, ARM, ACAS/FCAS, or data analytics certifications).
  • Prior experience supporting specialty insurance products or structured financial risks is a plus.
  • An interest in sports is beneficial, particularly in understanding Contractual Bonus and Prize Indemnity risks.

Target Compensation: $80,000 - $125,000 . Total compensation (base salary & any applicable bonus plan) for this role will depend on several factors including relevant experience, credentials, skills, geographical location, and knowledge pertaining to this role and industry.
