Full Job Description
As a Technical Specialist for Chassis Structural Components, you will lead the design and development of components that provide lateral, longitudinal, and vertical vehicle control for world-class electric vehicles. You will collaborate closely with vehicle attribute teams, CAE engineers, suppliers, and system owners to deliver innovative suspension structures from concept through production. Key Responsibilities - Lead the design and development of chassis structural components from initial concept through production launch. - Define component requirements based on vehicle performance, durability, ride, handling, NVH, and safety targets. - Develop technology roadmaps and identify innovative solutions for future vehicle programs. - Drive engineering excellence at both the system and component level with exceptional attention to detail. - Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineering team members. - Work closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to achieve optimal system integration. - Coordinate virtual engineering activities and physical validation testing to ensure robust designs. - Partner with the CAE team to develop and optimize new vehicle architectures and structural concepts. - Manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced, demanding environment. - Enhance and maintain foundational engineering documents, including DVP&R, DFMEA, interface diagrams, and boundary diagrams. - Review and approve DVP&R documentation, control plans, and other engineering deliverables. - Champion the use of AI-driven engineering and simulation tools to reduce dependence on external support and physical testing. - Investigate and implement advanced joining and manufacturing technologies. - Support technology, supplier, and system selection decisions for future vehicle platforms. Required Qualifications - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. - 8+ years of automotive industry experience, primarily focused on chassis mechanical design. - Proven experience designing and releasing components from concept through production. - Hands-on experience with prototype assembly, development, and troubleshooting. - Experience in technology evaluation, supplier selection, and system architecture development. - Strong 3D CAD skills, project leadership experience, and mentoring capabilities. - Experience with engineering release processes, change management, and project management. - Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 20% as required. Preferred Qualifications - 10+ years of automotive industry experience. - Advanced proficiency with CATIA V5 and/or CATIA V6. - Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics, NVH, crashworthiness, and chassis performance attributes. - Experience performing and teaching CAE analysis methods and simulation tools. - Knowledge of automotive mechatronic systems, controls, and integrated chassis technologies. - Experience applying AI and data-driven engineering methods to accelerate product development and decision-making. - What Success Looks Like - Delivers innovative, production-ready chassis structures that meet performance, quality, timing, and cost targets. - Serves as the technical authority for chassis structural components within the organization. - Drives continuous improvement in engineering processes, simulation methodologies, and AI-enabled development tools. - Mentors engineers and elevates the overall technical capability of the chassis engineering team.
