Applications will be accepted through 11:59 P.M. MDT on the posting end date. The Idaho Department of Fish and Game is seeking an experienced leader to serve as Technical Services Bureau Chief. In this key role, you will guide the planning, coordination, and administration of our statewide Idaho Fish and Wildlife Information System and Technical Assistance programs. As the head of the of the Technical Services Bureau, the Chief plays a key role on the agency's leadership team and is based at our Headquarters in Boise - conveniently located near the Boise Greenbelt, the MK Nature Center, and the Kristin Armstrong Municipal Park. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: - Lead strategic planning and implementation of bureau's operational goals and priorities and ensure alignment with the Department's mission.
- Identify mid- and long-range adaptive needs and guide responsive bureau-wide continual improvement initiatives.
- Foster a productive, safe, and thriving workplace culture, including Implementing the bureau's Employee Engagement Plan.
- Oversee bureau meetings, retreats, and other opportunities for staff collaboration and teambuilding.
- Provide professional growth and development opportunities for staff.
- Strengthen positive and productive partnerships with other Department bureaus and programs.
- Supervise staff responsible for managing the Idaho Fish and Wildlife Information System and Technical Assistance programs.
- Hire and train staff; assign work and evaluate performance.
- Support the Director's Office, serve as a representative of the IDFG Director, and fulfill policies and rules of the Fish and Game Commission.
- Serve as a member of the Department's Leadership Operations Team.
- Liaise with the Governor's Office and state and federal agencies.
- Confer with public/elected officials, interest groups, private entities, and the general public regarding natural resource issues affecting fish, wildlife, and botanical resource conservation.
- Direct development and administration of bureau and regional budgets, including annual reporting requirements.
- Represent Department interests with Western Association of Wildlife Agencies (WAFWA) and Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies (AFWA).
Minimum Qualifications:(All qualifications listed below are required. - Experience managing staff and programs. (Typically gained by at least four years of experience leading teams, managing staff performance, and directly overseeing complex programs, projects, or operations.)
- Experience administering policies and procedures. (Typically gained by at least four years of experience developing, implementing, and evaluating policies and procedures at a program or division level, including providing guidance to staff and ensuring compliance with organizational or regulatory requirements.)
- Experience assessing program/project outcomes. (Typically gained by at least four years of experience assessing program or project outcomes to evaluate effectiveness, identify areas for improvement, and inform decision-making at a program or division level.)
- Experience interpreting and applying federal and state laws, regulations and/or directives. (Typically gained by at least four years of experience interpreting and applying federal and state laws, regulations, and directives in a program or division-level setting.)
- Experience preparing and presenting oral presentations to executives or governing boards. (Typically gained by at least two years of experience preparing and delivering oral presentations to executives or governing boards to communicate program outcomes, policy recommendations, or operational update.)
- Experience writing business documents and reports. (Typically gained by at least two years of experience writing and reviewing business documents, reports, and correspondence used to communicate program performance, policy recommendations, or operational decisions.)

- Considerable knowledge of directing an organization program, implementing organizational change, assessing program outcomes, and strategic and organizational planning of goals and objectives. (Typically gained by at least four years of experience directing organizational programs, implementing organizational change, assessing program outcomes, and participating in strategic and organizational planning of goals and objectives OR successful completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.)
- Experience managing project teams. (Typically gained by at least two years of experience leading project teams.)
- Experience identifying and resolving complex problems. (Typically gained by at least two years of experience identifying and resolving complex problems within a program, bureau, or organizational setting.)
- Experience designing and implementing programs relevant to agency and individual bureaus. (Typically gained by at least two years of experience designing and implementing programs relevant to an agency or bureau.)
