What this job involves

The Technical Engineering Lead provides strategic technical leadership and direct line management for the day and shift engineering teams supporting a high-profile London portfolio. This role combines hands-on technical expertise with people management, ensuring the effective delivery of critical MEP asset management, operational compliance, and 100% uptime for mission-critical facilities. You'll serve as the primary technical authority on all installed building systems, drive a safety-first culture, and work collaboratively with Account Managers and client teams to exceed expectations in customer service and operational excellence while maintaining robust statutory compliance and risk management standards.

Your day-to-day tasks will include:
  • Supervising, coordinating, and leading the site-based engineering team in delivering all planned and reactive MEP works, ensuring competent operation of building systems and providing technical support during critical projects and contractor activities
  • Managing critical facilities uptime by controlling day-to-day asset and system management, monitoring utilities usage, maintaining the engineering risk register, and reporting on system availability and asset reliability
  • Driving a health and safety-led culture throughout the team, ensuring compliance with statutory regulations, JLL Cardinal Rules of Safety, and safe systems of work while compiling critical incident reports and conducting after-action reviews
  • Conducting people management responsibilities including performance appraisals, setting clear objectives, identifying skills gaps, arranging training, and ensuring effective succession planning and competency across all engineering teams
  • Attending weekly operations meetings and client meetings, preparing monthly and quarterly engineering reports, and ensuring immediate communication of critical equipment issues with detailed recommendations to customers
  • Managing onsite critical spares inventory with monthly auditing, coordinating specialist vendor visits with site Facility Managers, and maintaining accurate asset databases
  • Providing technical support for moves, changes, capital expenditure projects, and asset lifecycle planning while maintaining minimum staffing levels and participating in the site escalation process including on-call emergency response

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Work in a high-profile commercial facility environment with critical MEP systems requiring 24/7 operational readiness
  • Ability to access mechanical rooms, electrical distribution areas, rooftops, plant rooms, and confined spaces as required
  • May require temporary shift working to provide engineering relief cover during emergencies or staffing shortages
  • Participation in on-call rotation for emergency response and out-of-normal-working-hours support of critical works
  • Physical ability to inspect equipment, climb ladders, and navigate building infrastructure during routine operations and emergency situations
  • Standard office work for reporting, meetings, and administrative duties combined with hands-on technical activities
  • Professional appearance and conduct required for client-facing meetings and site representation

Required Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of practical experience
  • Detailed technical understanding of all installed MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing) systems with proven ability to operate, troubleshoot, and manage complex building services
  • Demonstrated leadership experience with direct line management responsibility for engineering teams, including performance management, coaching, and staff development
  • Comprehensive knowledge of health and safety regulations, statutory compliance requirements, and safe systems of work within critical facilities environments
  • Experience managing critical facilities operations with focus on uptime, risk management, and operational compliance in mission-critical or data center environments
  • Proven ability to manage contractors, coordinate specialist vendors, and provide technical oversight for projects and capital expenditure works
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to work collaboratively across Account Management, client teams, and engineering personnel while maintaining professional client relationships


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Relevant engineering qualifications or certifications in building services, facilities management, or related technical disciplines
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and asset database management
  • Previous experience in pharmaceutical manufacturing environment (GMP and/or GXP)
  • Knowledge of energy management, utilities monitoring, and identifying energy savings opportunities
  • Experience with asset lifecycle planning, capital project support, and budget management
  • Understanding of moves and changes processes in corporate facilities environments

Estimated compensation for this position:

78,720.00 - 98,400.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
