Team Lead, Software Engineering


Job Description


As aTeam Leadin Software Engineering, you willbe responsible forproviding project definition and implementation through hands-on management of multiple software development teamsleveragingAgile Scrum development and project management best practices defined by the company.You will undertake the execution of software development projects to achieve the company27s strategicobjectivesand must work closely with Product Leaders & other managers.

CoStar is investing heavily in artificial intelligence to accelerate software delivery, improve platform observability, automate research and business workflows, enhance product experiences through intelligent agents and skills, and improve data quality across enterprise systems. Successful candidates will demonstrate a willingness to learn, adopt, and apply AI technologies responsibly to solve complex business and engineering challenges.

This position is located in Richmond, VA and offers a schedule of Monday to Thursday in office and the option to work from home on Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for architecture, project ownership, and team leadership.
  • Lead team(s) of talented software developers in building applications and platforms using modern object oriented programming languages.
  • Act as a player-coach, who can mentor & coach highly productive team members.
  • Promote can-do attitude, engineering mindset and collaboration as fundamental team values.
  • Drive continuous improvement by focusing on engineering excellence.
  • Champion the adoption of AI-assisted software development practices to improve developer productivity, code quality, platform reliability, and operational efficiency.
  • Leverage AI-powered monitoring, anomaly detection, replayability, and observability capabilities to improve system resiliency, incident response, root cause analysis, and customer experience.
  • Partner with engineering and product teams to identify opportunities for intelligent processes that reduce manual effort, accelerate sales workflows, and improve operational effectiveness across CoStar platforms.
  • Lead a team in designing, implementing, and governing AI-powered solutions including skills, agents, tools, and workflow automations that enhance both internal productivity and customer-facing products.
  • Promote responsible AI adoption by ensuring solutions adhere to security, privacy, governance, and quality standards.
  • Manage and coordinate projects within teams and across departments.
  • Continually evaluate emerging technologies to identify opportunities, trends, and best practices that can be leveraged to strength CoStar27s technology platform and develop practices

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor27s degreefrom an accredited, not-for-profit, in-person university or college
  • Track record of commitment to prior employers
  • 5+ years27 experience in web development and database technologies
  • 3+ years27 experience building large distributed, API-driven systems
  • Strong understanding of OOP and software design patterns
  • Experience using TypeScript, C#, SQL Server, AWS technologies, or similar tools
  • Experience leading a technical team, working through complexrequirementsand offering relevant, timely technical solutions.
  • Understanding AI technologies and has hands on experience in AI adoption and development.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; Must be able to communicate at a level appropriate to the audience (direct reports, peers and senior management)
  • Ability to motivate and build high performance software development teams.
  • Familiarity with modern AI platforms, large language models (LLMs), agent orchestration frameworks, or AI-assisted development tools.
  • Understanding of observability, monitoring, replayability, telemetry analysis, and automated incident detection platforms.

  • Experience with Docker and container orchestration a plus.

The final salary or hourly rate offered for this role will fall within the range set forth below based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, geographic location, skills, and competencies.

Base Compensation: $155,000.00-$203,000.00 Annually
