The successful candidate will be a part of a team that provides design support for large and small scale substation engineering projects. This is an excellent growth opportunity for a self-directed individual who wants to learn and take on new challenges.
Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Team Leader / Senior Substation & Transmission Engineer, we will count on you to:
• Develop a partnership with a PM, whereas the PM is responsible for scope, schedule, budget, and client management, and the EM/TL is responsible for leading the technical team and execution of the project deliverables.
• Develop and implement a project execution plan for the technical aspect of projects.
• Assign project tasks and provide technical guidance to project team members.
• Support the technical aspect of scope, schedule, and budget, including proposal development, work breakdown structure development and implementation, progress assessment, risk assessment/mitigation, change management, and schedule management.
• Works with local area and practice leadership to hire, mentor, train, and/or supervise a team of Project Engineers, EIT's, or CADD/Designers.
• Coordinate and/or perform quality checks and reviews for all project deliverables per the HDR Quality Management Systems (QMS) requirements, processes, and procedures to deliver a world class quality product to the client. Performs quality checks and/or reviews of projects from other teams on an as needed basis.
• Lead multiple projects concurrently, utilizing teams in different locations.
• Work with senior engineers and technical leaders to identify and develop specific technical expertise and will attend training and seminars focused on further development and understanding of complex concepts related to their discipline.
• May also assist with developing technical papers and/or presentations that showcase HDR's technical capabilities at industry conferences or other events.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
• Conceptual knowledge of substation and transmission physical, electrical, civil, and structural design components
• Understands NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and other applicable design and equipment standards
• Track record of working cooperatively with diverse teams, regional, department, technical managers and project staff
• Experience with industry-standard design software
• Strong conceptual, organizational, problem solving, and collaboration skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Substation and or Transmission design experience with voltages of 115kV and above
• Previous consulting firm experience
• Previous staff supervision experience
• Self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills preferred
• Some travel may be required
• Preference given to candidates currently residing in the Glen Allen area

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering
• A minimum of 10 years of experience
• Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
• Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector
• Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, AutoPipe, and Revit)
