Responsibilities

  • Manage the tax compliance process including staffing, reviewing tax returns, and ensuring timely delivery.
  • Review and oversee the work of associates for accuracy and compliance; provide feedback and technical assistance.
  • Research technical tax issues and clearly document findings and proposed solutions for clients and management.
  • Communicate regularly with clients, addressing inquiries and guiding them through IRS procedures.
  • Deliver in-house technical training and participate in ongoing professional development activities.
  • Provide both informal and formal feedback to associates on their performance throughout engagements.
  • Support additional duties as assigned by management to meet organizational needs.

Full Job Description
As a Tax Senior, you'll work with private foundations, social service organizations, schools, associations, and other exempt organizations while tackling complex tax issues, contributing to consulting and advisory projects, and helping shape the future of a growing practice. As a Tax Senior, you'll serve as a key connection point between Associates and Managers, overseeing complex not-for-profit tax engagements from planning through delivery while ensuring quality, accuracy, and timely execution. You'll review returns, research technical issues, communicate directly with clients, provide coaching and guidance to Associates, and help keep work moving efficiently across the team. Beyond compliance, you'll have opportunities to contribute to consulting projects, technical training, process improvements, and the adoption of emerging technologies. This position is an important part of the firm's leadership pipeline, offering a pathway to expanded client relationship management, people leadership, and long-term career growth within the non-exempt organization's tax practice.

Tax Seniors report into the office 3 days per week in Bellevue, WA to mentor and coach Associates and resolve technical questions. Successful candidates need to be located in the greater Seattle area.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS include but are not limited to:
  • Manage the tax compliance process which includes staffing, gathering information, reviewing tax returns and work papers and delivering the tax return in accordance with pre-established budget and standards. Communicate regularly with managers and shareholders regarding the status of assigned engagements.
  • Review the work performed by associates on tax returns and work papers to ensure accuracy and compliance with professional and organizational standards, as well as codes and regulations. Provide feedback and technical assistance for issues that might arise. Ensure timelines are met.
  • Research technical tax issues and properly document with clear conclusions. Review and analyze various issues related to IRS and other regulations. Propose solutions and communicate findings with managers, shareholders and clients.
  • Communicate regularly with clients throughout the engagement to answer questions, obtain information, and discuss issues and progress. Assist clients with IRS examinations, appeals and other practice and procedure matters.
  • Present in-house technical training for staff that supports organizational needs. Attend CPE courses for required professional development.
  • Provide informal feedback to assigned associates during the engagement and formal, written feedback at the end of the engagement or during the annual review process, as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by manager to support the needs of the organization.


Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field or a combination of education and directly related work experience. CPA License or equivalent.

Experience: 3+ years' progressively more responsible assignments in public accounting in tax preparation, tax research and compliance with non-profit organizations. Demonstrated successful experience as a lead. You must pass a background check, including a credit check, at any time to remain eligible for this position.

Salary Range: $100,000 minimum to $132,801 maximum salary range USD
