As a Senior Associate in Armanino’s State & Local Tax (Sales & Use Tax) practice, you will support multistate compliance and consulting engagements, contribute to technical analyses, and help deliver high-quality client service while continuing to develop your expertise in indirect tax.
Job Responsibilities
Prepare and review sales and use tax returns and filings across multiple jurisdictions
Support sales and use tax compliance and consulting engagements, ensuring timely and accurate delivery
Assist with nexus determinations, taxability analysis, and transaction-level reviews
Conduct multistate tax research to support filing positions, audit responses, and client guidance
Support state tax controversy matters, including audits, notices, and inquiries
Assist with tax technology initiatives, including tax engine implementation, optimization, and data validation
Learn and utilize cutting-edge technology to provide timely, accurate, and efficient client service
Develop tools and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy in the compliance process
Make recommendations on business and process improvements related to sales and use tax filings
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Tax, Finance, or related discipline
Minimum 3 years of State & Local Tax experience, with a focus on sales and use tax
CPA, EA, or ability to pursue relevant certification (including CPA, EA, or JD/Tax Attorney pathway)
Experience with multistate tax compliance, research, and indirect tax concepts
Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree in Accounting or Taxation
CPA or equivalent credential
Public accounting experience preferred
Experience with tax technology tools (e.g., Vertex, Avalara, OneSource, Alteryx, Power BI, or comparable)
Advanced Excel or data analysis skills

For Illinois residents, New York residents, and Southern California residents, the compensation range for this position: $92,100 - $125,400. For Northern California residents, the compensation range for this position: $96,100 - $131,100. Compensation may vary based on skills, role, and location. Eligible employees at certain levels can participate in a discretionary long-term financial incentive plan, subject to plan participation rules.
