About the Role

GSM Outdoors is seeking an experienced Indirect Tax Manager to lead the Company's indirect tax function, ensuring compliance with federal, state, local, and international tax regulations. This role will oversee indirect tax compliance, support mergers and acquisitions, manage tax audits, and partner with cross-functional teams to develop tax strategies that minimize risk and support business growth.

The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker with extensive multi-state indirect tax experience, strong technical expertise, and a passion for process improvement.

What You'll Do:

Tax Compliance & Reporting
  • Lead the preparation, review, and timely filing of all indirect tax compliance and reporting activities.
  • Oversee sales and use tax, VAT, GST, excise tax, and other indirect tax filings across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and international tax laws and regulations.
  • Partner with Accounting to ensure accurate tax accounting, accruals, and financial reporting.


Tax Strategy & Advisory
  • Advise business leaders on the indirect tax implications of business transactions, new initiatives, and operational changes.
  • Develop and implement indirect tax strategies, policies, and process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce risk.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax changes and communicate potential business impacts and recommended actions.
  • Conduct technical tax research and provide guidance on complex tax matters.


Audit & Risk Management
  • Manage indirect tax audits, inquiries, and correspondence with tax authorities.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to ensure compliance and resolve tax-related matters.
  • Identify and mitigate tax risks while maintaining strong internal controls.


Mergers & Acquisitions
  • Support mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic transactions by performing indirect tax due diligence.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders and external advisors to identify tax risks and integration opportunities.


Leadership & Collaboration
  • Partner with Finance, Accounting, IT, and other business functions to improve tax processes and reporting capabilities.
  • Lead tax-related projects and ensure deliverables are completed accurately and on time.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop junior tax professionals while fostering a collaborative team environment.


Requirements

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Master's degree in Taxation or CPA designation preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in indirect tax compliance, including significant multi-state sales and use tax experience.
  • Experience supporting mergers and acquisitions from an indirect tax perspective.
  • Prior experience with Vertex O Series strongly preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Oracle, or similar platforms preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of sales and use tax, VAT, GST, and excise tax regulations.
  • Proven ability to conduct technical tax research and interpret complex tax legislation.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting critical deadlines.
