Tax Director
Tax Director provides strategic leadership and oversight for the firm's tax practice, ensuring the delivery of exceptional tax compliance, planning, and advisory services that support clients in managing, protecting, and growing their businesses. As a trusted advisor, this role partners closely with clients, firm leadership, and professionals across service lines to deliver integrated solutions that address complex business and personal tax needs. The Tax Director is responsible for technical excellence, talent development, client relationship management, business development, and driving innovation within the tax practice.

Key Responsibilities
Practice Leadership & Strategic Advisory
• Lead and grow the firm's tax practice, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and the firm's integrated advisory model.
• Develop and execute strategic initiatives that enhance service delivery, client experience, operational efficiency, and profitability.
• Champion innovation through the adoption of technology, automation, and best practices to improve workflows and client outcomes.
• Collaborate with leaders across accounting, assurance, outsourced accounting, insurance, and advisory services to deliver comprehensive client solutions.
• Monitor departmental performance metrics, utilization, budgets, and realization goals.
Client Service & Technical Excellence
• Review and oversee complex tax returns for corporations, partnerships, S corporations, individuals, estates, and trusts.
• Serve as a strategic advisor to clients, providing proactive tax planning, consulting, and business advisory services.
• Identify opportunities to help clients improve tax efficiency, mitigate risk, and achieve long-term business objectives.
• Stay current on federal, state, and local tax developments and communicate relevant changes to clients and internal teams.
• Resolve complex technical issues and provide guidance on sophisticated tax matters, transactions, and planning strategies.
Integrated Client Solutions
• Partner with professionals across service lines to deliver holistic solutions that address clients' tax, financial, operational, risk management, and growth objectives.
• Identify opportunities to expand client relationships through additional service offerings and strategic advisory engagements.
• Participate in key client meetings, strategic planning discussions, and business development initiatives.
Business Development & Market Leadership
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective clients, referral sources, and community organizations.
• Participate in networking events, professional associations, and industry groups to increase the firm's visibility and market presence.
• Support proposal development, presentations, and client onboarding activities.
• Contribute to the firm's growth by identifying new service opportunities and expanding existing client engagements.
Team Leadership & Talent Development
• Mentor, coach, and develop tax managers, seniors, and staff, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
• Oversee staffing, workflow management, performance evaluations, and career development planning.
• Lead technical training programs, internal knowledge-sharing initiatives, and continuing professional education (CPE) opportunities.
• Support recruiting, onboarding, and retention efforts to build a high-performing tax team.
Risk Management & Quality Control
• Ensure compliance with firm policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain high-quality work product through effective review processes and quality control procedures.
• Manage engagement risks, client concerns, and complex tax matters while promoting sound professional judgment.
• Assist with firmwide risk management initiatives and tax practice governance.

Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
• Master's degree in Taxation, Accounting, or a related field preferred.
• Active CPA license required.
• 10+ years of progressive public accounting experience, including significant experience in tax compliance, planning, and advisory services.
• Minimum of 3-5 years of leadership experience managing teams, client relationships, and engagements.
• Demonstrated experience serving privately held businesses, business owners, and high-net-worth individuals.
• Strong technical knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations.
