Title: Tax Associate
Location: Houston, Texas
Duration: Permanent Position
Compensation: $85,000 - $90,000

Skillset / Experience: The Tax Associate is responsible for supporting tax compliance, audits, reporting, and planning activities across federal, state, and local jurisdictions. This role plays a key part in ensuring accurate tax reporting, maintaining compliance with applicable regulations, and supporting the company's overall tax strategy in a fast-paced, multi-entity environment. This position reports to the CFO and collaborates closely with Finance, Human Resources, external tax consultants, and internal stakeholders across the organization.
Responsibilities: Tax Compliance & Reporting
- Review and assist in the preparation of federal and state income tax filings in coordination with
internal accounting teams - Oversee property tax processes, including evaluations, protests, and timely payment
management - Perform monthly tax account reconciliations and ensure accuracy of tax-related balances
- Maintain and ensure accuracy of data within tax software systems, including Avalara
- Collect, track, and maintain exemption certificates and support tax documentation
- Manage business registrations and licensing requirements with applicable taxing authorities
Audits & Regulatory Support
- Manage and coordinate state and local sales and use tax audits
- Respond to notices, audits, and inquiries from federal, state, and local taxing authorities
- Develop and maintain internal controls and documentation related to tax processes
- Partner with Human Resources to support payroll tax compliance efforts
- Ensure compliance with company policies, tax regulations, and reporting requirements
Tax Research & Process Improvement
- Research federal, state, and local tax issues related to operations, audit matters, and acquisition
activity
- Monitor changes in tax legislation, evaluate impact, and communicate findings to leadership
- Identify tax savings opportunities and assist with implementation across business units
- Lead transaction tax-related special projects and process improvement initiatives
- Develop and deliver internal training related to sales, use, and excise taxes
- Support continuous improvement of tax reporting processes and operational efficiency
What You Bring - Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline required
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in tax, including income, sales/use, property, and
transaction tax - Strong knowledge of transaction tax concepts, practices, and procedures
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across departments
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and stakeholders effectively in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and tax/accounting software systems preferred
