DescriptionNorthrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a
Systems Modeling and Simulation Engineer Level 2 or 3 for the development and ongoing support of new and existing turbine generators used in surface ship and submarine propulsion and power generation systems for the US Navy based out of
Sunnyvale, CA.
What You'll get to Do:Our Sunnyvale site specializes in the development, manufacture, assembly and testing of propulsion and power generation systems for naval surface ships and submarines. The candidate selected will apply their skills to support current and future Navy Power & Propulsion development. Responsibilities include:
- Analyzing control system performance and requirements using systems models
- Modeling dynamic multi-physics systems from first principles; mechanical, electrical, magnetic
- Use model reduction methods to simplify systems for control design
- Perform linear systems analysis
- Perform stability analysis
- Build and parameterize uncertainty models
- Develop nonlinear simulation models
- Document work to share with engineering community and customer
Must be onsite 4 days a week, remote work is not an option for this role. This requisition may be filled at a higher grade based on the qualifications listed below:Basic Qualifications for level T2:- Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 3 years relevant work experience; or Master's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with no relevant relevant experience; or Ph.D in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with no relevant work experience.
- Experience in frequency domain analysis.
- Experience characterizing and analyzing system stability.
- Experience with block diagrams and linear algebra.
- Experience with grey-box model validation.
- Proficiency with MATLAB coding and Simulink modeling.
- Experience building state space models of multiphysical systems.
- Experience with numerical methods for solving differential equations.
- Must be a US citizen.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret Clearance.
Basic Qualifications for level T3:- Bachelor's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) discipline with 5 years relevant work experience; or Master's Degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with no relevant relevant experience; or Ph.D in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with no relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:- Active US Government Secret clearance.
- Master's degree or higher in Aerospace, Mechanical, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Controller tuning experience on real machines
- Experience with ModelCenter Integrate and Explore
- Familiar with rotordynamic analysis
- Familiar with FEA and super elements models
- Familiar with electromagnetics
- Experience designing weighting functions to meet operating criteria of large, MIMO systems
- Performing robust control design
Primary Level Salary Range: $91,800.00 - $137,600.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $114,000.00 - $171,000.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
