Full Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Systems Engineer on the Tactical Reconnaissance Systems (TRS) team, you will be the critical bridge between subsystems, ensuring hardware and software performance, reliability, and integration meet our aggressive program goals. This role goes beyond traditional requirements management-you'll drive cross-functional problem-solving, build predictive models, define test strategies, and ensure we deliver reliable systems to the field without costly rework.
This position offers a clear pathway toward Chief Engineering leadership. You'll develop program management skills while maintaining deep technical engagement, learning to balance system-level thinking with hands-on execution. Success means our vehicles perform reliably in the field, our testing is scientific and predictive, and we never ship hardware that requires customer-site rework.
We need engineers who are tired of requirements documents that don't solve problems and want to roll up their sleeves to define what "good" looks like across mechanical, electrical, software, and test disciplines.
WHAT YOU'LL DO

Hardware & Software Assurance
  • Own cross-functional integration between Mechanical, GNC, Aero, Electrical, and Beacon teams with DevTest and Analysts
  • Drive specific, scientifically rigorous subsystem and component-level testing in advance of full system integration and flight tests
  • Define and execute vehicle qualification strategy and inform vehicle acceptance criteria
  • Ensure P95 reliability goals through proactive test planning and validation
  • Understand software scope of work and align with overall program goals
  • Modify software sprints and architecture based on program priorities and customer requirements

System Modeling & Performance Analysis
  • Build all-up reliability models based on subsystem testing data and forward modeling
  • Develop system models that capture the interplay between performance and cost (e.g., wing stiffness impact on performance vs. manufacturing cost)
  • Define payload weight and inertia budgets with precision
  • Develop latency budgets and performance envelopes for software subsystems
  • Establish ATP bounds for hardware based on derived performance and reliability targets
  • Make architectural decisions that balance capability, schedule, and technical risk

Requirements & Customer Interface
  • Interface regularly with Growth team to iterate on requirements and system architecture
  • Focus on GSE, logistics, and end-user experience requirements
  • Iterate on autonomy behaviors to meet Growth demands and build up capabilities for near-term commitments
  • Drive flow-down analysis per vehicle subsystem to inform testing requirements

Cross-Subsystem Problem Solving
  • Dive deep into problems spanning hardware and software subsystems (perception, localization, planning, controls, sensor/servo integration)
  • Get hands-on: spin up mission sim environments, debug cross-system issues, prototype solutions
  • Develop mission profiles and validate them in simulation environments
  • Correlate and extrapolate real-world test data through appropriate system modeling
  • Unblock teams by bridging gaps between software engineering and hardware constraints

Configuration Management & Program Execution
  • Track hardware deltas from PDR 1 CDR 1 Shipment
  • Ensure proper hardware delivery and test tracking across the program
  • Sit in software sprints and unblock teams through systems-level thinking
  • Follow up on derived performance and reliability targets for all subsystems
  • Define on-the-line testing that ensures field performance.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • 3-5+ years of experience in aerospace, robotics, or defense systems development
  • Experience across multiple disciplines (hardware and software subsystems)
  • Strong foundation in system-level testing, qualification, and reliability analysis
  • Ability to make architectural decisions and drive cross-functional problem solving
  • Hands-on problem solver with bias toward action over documentation
  • Ability to influence without authority across engineering teams
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Defense industry experience or familiarity with MIL-STDs
  • UAV/UAS or autonomous platform experience
  • Background in deisgn and test engineering
  • Experience with system modeling, reliability analysis, or MBSE tools
  • Exposure to program management or technical leadership
  • Advanced degree in relevant engineering discipline
  • Experience with embedded systems, ROS, or GNC software
