The Opportunity:
The System Engineer will carefully evaluate user requirements, concept of operations documents, and high-level system architectures. This foundational work enables the development of detailed system requirements specifications. Systems engineers then assess these requirements, spearheading design and development activities to ensure every stage is aligned with our objectives. Throughout, they provide guidance to users on creating precise requirements, suggest alternative approaches, and conduct feasibility studies to chart the most effective path forward.
Technical leadership is central to the role, as systems engineers are responsible for harmonizing requirements, design, and technology—making sure that new plans, designs, and systems are successfully integrated into ongoing operations. At each phase, thorough technical documentation is produced, covering both system architecture and system design.
Additionally, systems engineers direct system development and implementation planning, carrying out thorough assessments and preparing crucial documents such as system engineering management plans and system integration and test plans. Regular engagement with the Government is part of the role, especially when discussing Systems Engineering technical considerations and addressing any problems, issues, or conflicts that may arise.
Ultimately, the systems engineer is accountable for the technical integrity of all work performed and deliverables produced within their domain. Open and effective communication with other program personnel, government overseers, and senior executives is essential for maintaining alignment and swiftly addressing any challenges.
Responsibilities:
Enterprise Architecture Design: Author, review, and maintain repeatable, comprehensive System Architecture and system design documentation for IT environments.
Requirements Engineering: Analyze user requirements, CONOPS, and high-level architectures/visions to derive formal, testable system requirements.
Hybrid Environment Engineering: Architect and optimize complex infrastructures operating both on-premises (bare-metal/virtualized) and off-premises.
Verification & Validation Oversight: Guide system development and implementation planning by authoring and executing system integration and test plans.
Government & Executive Liaison: Interface directly with senior executives regarding complex Engineering considerations, technical roadblocks, or architectural conflicts.
Cross-Functional Communication: Collaborate closely with Program Managers, Project Managers, and technical teams to align architectural vision with execution schedules.
High-Level Documentation: Facilitate technical alignment by authoring, updating, and defending technical documentation in technical exchange meetings (TEMs).
Feasibility & Trade Studies: Guide users in formulating requirements, advise on alternative technical approaches, and conduct rigorous technical feasibility studies.
Integration Leadership: Serve as the technical lead for the seamless integration of requirements, system design, and emerging technologies.
Qualifications:
Required:
Hands-on experience in Systems Engineering and IT Architecture.
Proven track record of designing and managing technical architectures for both on-premises enterprise data centers and cloud environments.
Demonstrated expert-level experience engineering complex Network infrastructure and End-User computing solutions at scale.
Mastery in authoring formal Systems Engineering artifacts, including CONOPS, SRS, SDDs, SEMPs, and Test Plans.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with explicit experience briefing senior executives on complex problems and architectural trade-offs.
Education and Experience:
14 years’ experience as a SE in programs and contracts of similar scope, type and complexity is required.
Bachelor’s degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
5 years of additional SE experience may be substituted for a bachelor’s degree
Desired:
INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) or Expert Systems Engineering Professional (ESEP).
