This role will be performed on-site in Huntsville, AL.
Summit TRC is seeking to add a Systems Engineer to join our team supporting a UAS program or record. This role is centered on the classic systems engineering discipline: deriving and decomposing requirements, writing clear and testable requirements, and executing the Systems Engineering V from concept through verification for unmanned aerial systems. The ideal candidate brings rigorous SE fundamentals and is comfortable operating within a structured government program environment. Experience with safety or software safety, and familiarity with MBSE, are a plus but not required. If you have relevant experience, please apply!
Key Responsibilities:- Derive, decompose, and allocate system and subsystem requirements for unmanned aerial systems (UAS) from higher-level customer and stakeholder needs
- Author, refine, and maintain requirements ensuring clarity, testability, and bidirectional traceability throughout the Systems Engineering V
- Support requirements verification and validation activities, ensuring alignment between requirements, design, and test artifacts
- Interface with government customers, program management, and cross-functional engineering teams to clarify, negotiate, and baseline requirements
- Develop and maintain requirements traceability matrices and supporting technical documentation
- Participate in technical reviews (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR), providing systems engineering rigor and requirements insight
- Support configuration management of requirements baselines and manage changes through established control processes
- Contribute to risk identification and mitigation planning from a systems engineering perspective
- (Bonus) Support safety and software safety analysis activities, including hazard identification and safety case documentation
- (Bonus) Apply Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) principles, using tools such as Cameo, to support requirements and architecture development
Qualifications:- Bachelors Degree
- Active Secret security clearance
- 3-15 years of experience in requirements derivation, decomposition, and management on a program of record, ideally supporting UAS or other unmanned/autonomous systems
- Strong working knowledge of the Systems Engineering V and systems engineering lifecycle processes
- Excellent technical writing skills with experience authoring clear, testable, well-structured requirements
- Experience supporting technical reviews and interfacing directly with government customers
- Self-directed with strong attention to detail and established project methodology
- Preferred: experience with safety engineering or software safety analysis
- Preferred: familiarity with MBSE methodologies and tools, particularly Cameo/MagicDraw
