We are seeking an ever-curious DevOps System Engineer to join a dynamic team in Annapolis Junction, MD. In this role, you will design, implement, and maintain high-performing DevOps resources across multiple product teams, driving end-to-end automation for build, test, and deployment pipelines. As a DevOps Engineer at Nyla, you are a self-starter who brings both deep technical mastery and the initiative to continuously learn and adopt new tools. You will build clean Infrastructure as Code (IaC), provision managed AWS services, and optimize containerized environments utilizing Kubernetes (EKS), Helm, and cloud-native observability stacks. The annual base salary range for this role is $189,000-$224,000 (USD) , which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other things.
Required Skills- Infrastructure as Code & Scripting: Strong proficiency with Terraform, Ansible, and Python for environment provisioning and workflow automation.
- Cloud Infrastructure (AWS): Hands-on experience building, managing, and scaling AWS cloud environments (EC2, Lambdas, EKS, RDS, S3, EFS, EBS).
- Kubernetes Orchestration: Direct experience configuring and tuning Kubernetes environments, with a primary focus on AWS Elastic Kubernetes Service (EKS).
- CI/CD Automation: Demonstrated experience designing, managing, and maintaining GitLab CI/CD pipelines utilizing GitLab runners and GitOps tools like Argo CD.
- Observability & Metrics: Applied experience installing and tuning cloud-native logging and monitoring tools (Elasticsearch, Prometheus, Grafana).
- Team Collaboration: Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a team-first mindset dedicated to working across multidisciplinary stakeholder teams.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline, PLUS
20+ years of professional software development experience OR
High School Diploma / GED, PLUS
25+ years of hands-on technical software engineering experience in lieu of a degree.
Desired SkillsDeep experience managing GitOps pipelines via Argo CD and GitLab CI/CD workflows.
Familiarity with FOSS/CNCF ecosystem tools (e.g., Elasticsearch, Prometheus, Grafana, PGAdmin) deployed and managed within Kubernetes via Helm charts.
Familiarity with various Kubernetes storage class configurations (e.g., GP3, Longhorn, EBS).
