The
Systems Design Engineer III leads the design, development, and integration of complex systems for the SMR-300 power plant. This role requires extensive coordination with engineering disciplines and licensing groups and technical leadership of system integration activities, including requirements and design-basis development, component specification, engineering analysis, interface management, and resolution of complex design issues. The Engineer exercises a high degree of technical autonomy, establishes approaches for complex engineering assignments, and provides technical direction to other engineers. The Engineer will be part of a team executing a U.S. Government cost-shared development program and will have significant influence on system performance, technical risk, licensing readiness, and successful execution of the plant design.
Location: Camden, NJ (On-site) - Relocation Assistance Available!
Primary Responsibilities:- Lead the design, development, and integration of complex plant systems for the SMR-300 small modular reactor program.
- Lead and review complex engineering evaluations, calculations, and analyses related to thermal-hydraulic, mechanical, and process system design.
- Establish technical approaches and lead development of system design documentation, including system descriptions, design specifications, engineering calculations, technical reports, and design bases.
- Lead development, verification, reconciliation, and management of system requirements and design bases, including resolution of conflicting or cross-disciplinary requirements.
- Lead coordination among component, mechanical, civil, electrical, I&C, licensing, and other engineering organizations to resolve complex system interfaces and ensure integrated plant design.
- Provide technical leadership for selection, specification, and evaluation of major plant equipment and components.
- Lead and perform technical reviews of engineering drawings, models, vendor documentation, calculations, and other design deliverables.
- Identify and resolve complex or ambiguous technical issues with significant system or cross-system implications, developing technically sound and practical solutions with limited oversight.
- Lead major design reviews, technical meetings, trade studies, and cross-functional engineering activities and communicate technical recommendations and decisions to project and engineering leadership.
- Ensure engineering work complies with applicable codes, standards, quality requirements, design bases, configuration management requirements, and regulatory expectations.
- Lead technical support for licensing activities, including development and defense of technical information and resolution of licensing questions affecting assigned systems.
- Evaluate proposed design changes for system, interface, requirements, licensing, and configuration impacts throughout the design lifecycle.
- Lead small technical teams or major engineering work scopes and provide technical direction, mentoring, and review to less-experienced engineers.
- Coordinate technical priorities with project and engineering leadership and proactively identify and communicate significant technical, schedule, integration, and program risks.
- Serve as a recognized technical resource within assigned systems or areas of expertise and contribute to development of engineering methods, practices, and technical guidance.
