Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a detail-oriented and technically proficient Systems Engineer II to serve in a Technical Writer capacity supporting a complex, multi-cloud environment. In this hybrid role, the selected candidate will leverage both systems engineering expertise and strong technical communication skills to develop new documentation artifacts, maintain existing documentation, and ensure the accuracy and consistency of technical content across the program.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable working with a variety of documentation tools, configuration management practices, and collaborative platforms to deliver clear, accurate, and accessible information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Documentation Generation
  • Utilize Agency-approved tools to generate technical documentation efficiently and accurately. Tools may include, but are not limited to, the Atlassian suite of products, Microsoft Office applications, and GitLab.
  • Review, edit, and validate documentation to ensure technical accuracy, clarity, consistency, and overall quality prior to publication and distribution.

Configuration Management & Document Control
  • Consolidate documentation from multiple repositories, web pages, and locations into a single authoritative baseline.
  • Develop and maintain documentation required to achieve and sustain compliance with Agency policies and standards.
  • Collaborate closely with TTO-11 developers to gain an understanding of products, processes, and system architectures, ensuring documentation accurately reflects the current and evolving system posture.
  • Maintain document currency and consistency across all publication environments while ensuring proper synchronization, version control, and configuration management.

Security & Compliance Documentation
  • Create, update, and maintain System Security Plan (SSP) documentation in accordance with applicable frameworks, compliance requirements, and program standards.
  • Ensure security documentation accurately reflects system configurations, implemented controls, and operational procedures.

Technical Documentation & Diagrams
  • Develop and maintain user guides, standard operating procedures (SOPs), process documentation, technical reference materials, and knowledge base articles.
  • Design and update system diagrams, workflows, and visual aids using Microsoft Visio or equivalent diagramming tools.
  • Produce professional-quality deliverables utilizing Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and other Office applications.

Collaboration & Knowledge Management
  • Utilize Atlassian Jira to manage documentation tasks, track work items, and coordinate efforts across cross-functional teams.
  • Capture, organize, maintain, and publish team knowledge within Atlassian Confluence, ensuring documentation is structured for ease of use, discoverability, and long-term sustainment.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Fourteen (14) years of Systems Engineering experience supporting programs of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Technical Communication, or a related field from an accredited college or university. Four (4) additional years of Systems Engineering experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in systems engineering, technical writing, documentation management, or a related role.
  • Demonstrated experience generating, reviewing, and maintaining documentation using AI-assisted authoring tools.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio.
  • Hands-on experience with Atlassian Jira and Confluence.
  • Familiarity with System Security Plan (SSP) documentation and compliance frameworks such as NIST RMF and FedRAMP.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to evaluate documentation for technical accuracy, completeness, consistency, and readability.
  • Experience managing documentation and configuration control across multiple repositories and environments.
  • Active TS/SCI security clearance with a current polygraph is required.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD), Intelligence Community (IC), or Federal Government programs.
  • Familiarity with version control systems, Git-based repositories, and document management platforms.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, information assurance requirements, and security compliance documentation.
  • Experience working within Agile, DevSecOps, cloud, or multi-cloud environments.
  • Experience developing technical diagrams, workflows, and architecture documentation using Microsoft Visio or similar tools.


Candidates must provide proof of certifications during the screening or offer process.

Target Salary Range

$146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual's experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
