Description:

Northrop Grumman Space Systems - Missile Defense Integration (MDI) Business Unit has an exciting career opportunity in Huntsville, Alabama for a Systems Engineer - Level 4 or 5 to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals, supporting the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD) Weapon Systems (GWS) program. This position is located in Huntsville, AL.

Position Overview:

The selected Systems Engineer - Level 4 or 5 will support the GWS Execution Team in a flexible, multi-build capacity. Working closely with Build Leads and Product Teams, the engineer will drive roadmap execution and provide technical build-execution support. Key duties include creating Technical Review Packages, facilitating / leading in design reviews, annual Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) and program Design Capstone events, performing analysis and impact assessments for specification updates and releases, contributing to the Engineering Review Board, and interfacing with internal and external stakeholders. This role blends hands-on engineering with cross-functional collaboration to ensure seamless program delivery and high-quality products.

Basic Qualifications:

  • For a Level 4: STEM B.S. Degree (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 8 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 6 years of related experience, or 4 years of related experience with a PhD.
  • For a Level 5: STEM B.S. Degree (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 12 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 10 years of related experience, or 8 years of related experience with a PhD.
  • Applicants must have a current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance at the time of application which is required to start.
  • Experience with requirements decomposition, requirements management and verification/verification methods.
  • Experience applying Model Based Systems Engineering to develop and model requirements.
  • Experience managing requirements or systems engineering artifacts using tools such as DOORS or Cameo.
  • Milestone Technical Review and action item resolution exposure.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development using tools such as Jira, Confluence and/or Fisheye/Crucible
  • Exceptional communication and critical thinking skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical content to audiences of varying backgrounds.
  • Ability and willingness to travel up to 10% of the time to support business needs.
  • Must be able to support an in-person / closed-area work environment full-time.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated independent planning, organization, and working in cross-functional teams with a customer focus.
  • Experience incorporating stakeholder feedback from multiple organizations (e.g. teams, IPTs, sectors) into actionable solutions.
  • Experience conducting software/hardware design reviews.
  • Experience taking systems engineering requirements or artifacts through the systems engineering lifecycle.
  • Experience with risk analysis, risk management and impact assessments.
  • GMD domain knowledge.


Primary Level Salary Range: $135,800.00 - $203,600.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $169,000.00 - $253,600.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
