Job Summary
The Systems Administrator - III will be responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, administration, and support of IBM MQ messaging middleware infrastructure. The role will ensure reliable and secure message delivery between applications and systems across the enterprise while supporting server infrastructure, system integration, troubleshooting, security, performance, and operational continuity.
Key Responsibilities
• Install and configure IBM MQ software across Windows, Linux, Unix, and AIX platforms.
• Set up and maintain queue managers, queues, channels, listeners, clustering, and high-availability solutions.
• Configure multi-instance queue managers to support failover capabilities.
• Implement security protocols, authentication, authorization, and SSL/TLS configurations.
• Monitor queue depths, channel status, message flow, and overall system performance.
• Resolve message build-ups, connectivity issues, message delivery failures, and other IBM MQ-related incidents.
• Perform regular system health checks, audits, patching, updates, and version upgrades.
• Maintain message retention and archiving strategies and configure dead letter queues and error handling.
• Configure Channel Authentication Records (CHLAUTH) and manage user access and permissions.
• Monitor performance metrics, optimize queue manager and channel configurations, and tune memory and resource allocation.
• Analyze IBM MQ logs, including AMQERR01.LOG and FDC files, to identify and resolve system issues and performance bottlenecks.
• Perform capacity planning and forecasting and implement messaging performance best practices.
• Provide 24/7 on-call support as required and escalate complex issues to IBM support.
• Implement backup and recovery strategies for queue manager data and perform disaster recovery testing.
• Document recovery procedures and maintain business continuity plans.
• Restore queue managers and configurations when required.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, performance reports, and availability reports.
• Maintain configuration management databases and track incidents and change requests.
• Work with development teams to define integration requirements and support application deployments.
• Coordinate with network teams to resolve connectivity issues and participate in architecture and design discussions.
• Provide guidance on messaging best practices and enterprise integration solutions.
• Deploy new technologies and design, install, configure, maintain, and perform system integration testing for PC/server operating systems, related utilities, and hardware.
• Troubleshoot server problems reported by users and provide appropriate resolutions.
• Research, evaluate, and recommend software and hardware products based on business and technical requirements.
• Support web access and electronic messaging services while maintaining a secure systems environment.
• Define new hardware specifications based on application requirements and anticipated growth.
• Install new servers and maintain the overall server infrastructure.
Required Qualifications
• Strong experience administering IBM MQ messaging middleware in enterprise environments.
• Hands-on experience installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting IBM MQ.
• Experience with Windows, Linux, Unix, and AIX platforms.
• Experience configuring queue managers, queues, channels, listeners, clustering, and high-availability solutions.
• Strong understanding of IBM MQ security, including CHLAUTH, authentication, authorization, and SSL/TLS.
• Experience with IBM MQ monitoring, performance tuning, capacity planning, and troubleshooting.
• Experience analyzing IBM MQ error logs, including AMQERR01.LOG and FDC files.
• Experience implementing backup, recovery, disaster recovery, and business continuity procedures.
• Strong knowledge of server administration, operating systems, hardware, utilities, and system integration.
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively with application, development, network, and infrastructure teams.
• Strong technical documentation and communication skills.
