Systems Administrator II - Substation - HVDC

$82,000 - $102,000 | On Site

What You'll Do:

  • Manage and support Minnesota Power's HVDC and FACTS substation control, protection, and supporting systems-including Active Directory, network switches, firewalls, Windows servers/workstations, and virtualization environments.
  • Support Transmission Engineering with operational technology compliance activities.
  • Provide IT infrastructure expertise for major HVDC and FACTS capital projects, overseeing servers, networks, and security systems from design through operation.
  • Maintain and improve existing technologies while strengthening compliance, regulatory, and security processes, with a focus on NERC CIP and company standards.
  • Deliver technical support and training to internal teams.
  • Develop and maintain clear, thorough documentation to ensure reliability, compliance, and consistent system performance.
  • Collaborate closely across teams and departments, contributing to a culture of learning, innovation, and continuous improvement.


What You'll Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Primary skillsets:
      • Windows workstation and server administration
      • Active Directory and Group Policy management
      • Networking and switch administration (Ruggedcom and Cisco)
      • Virtual infrastructure management
      • Technical and compliance documentation
    • Secondary Skillsets
      • Cybersecurity system administration
      • SEL-3620 management
      • Experience with RTUs, relays, meters, and related substation equipment (preferred)
    • Additional Skills & Attributes
      • Ability to work effectively within change-management and compliance frameworks
      • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
      • Enthusiasm for learning and adopting new technologies
      • Ability to work independently and manage shifting priorities

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Regular in-person reporting to Duluth, MN is required.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Occasional off-hours support and travel to other company locations.
  • Occasional travel to vendor sites for design meetings or factory acceptance testing (
  • Compliance with NERC CIP (North American Electric Reliability Corporation - Critical Infrastructure Protection) standards required.
  • Position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match, and/or aptitude.


Compensation and Benefits:

The expected annual compensation range for this position is $82,000 - $102,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
