Systems Administrator provides systems administration, infrastructure support, and operational sustainment for the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) Enhanced Mission Integration (AEMI) program. The
Systems Administrator is responsible for the installation, configuration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and security of mission-critical computing environments, tactical networks, and mission systems supporting Special Operations Forces (SOF). The
Systems Administrator supports software and hardware integration, infrastructure modernization, cybersecurity compliance, developmental and operational testing, and fielding activities while ensuring the availability, integrity, and performance of enterprise and tactical computing environments. The position works closely with software developers, systems engineers, cybersecurity personnel, and operational users to ensure the availability, security, and performance of AEMI capabilities.
Responsibilities- Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems supporting development, test, and operational mission environments.
- Perform routine systems administration activities including user and account administration, software installation, system configuration, patch management, performance monitoring, and operating system maintenance.
- Administer and maintain physical servers, virtual servers, workstations, storage systems, virtual machines, and mission support infrastructure.
- Execute system backup, restoration, disaster recovery, and continuity of operations procedures to ensure system availability and data integrity.
- Monitor system health, availability, capacity, and performance using enterprise management and monitoring tools.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware, operating system, software, and infrastructure issues affecting mission operations.
- Support the operation, maintenance, and administration of tactical and enterprise network environments.
- Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain mission applications, communications software, utilities, middleware, and supporting system components.
- Apply operating system updates, security patches, firmware updates, and configuration changes in accordance with organizational policies and cybersecurity requirements.
- Support Developmental Test (DT), Operational Test (OT), and Operational Test and Evaluation (OT&E) activities through system preparation, configuration, troubleshooting, and technical support.
- Assist with system installations, technology refresh initiatives, software deployment, system imaging, and software load development activities.
- Implement and maintain Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), Security Requirements Guides (SRGs), vulnerability remediation activities, and other cybersecurity compliance requirements.
- Maintain system documentation including configuration baselines, operating procedures, installation guides, inventories, and technical documentation.
- Support configuration management processes and maintain accurate hardware and software asset inventories.
- Collaborate with software developers, systems engineers, cybersecurity personnel, network engineers, and government stakeholders to ensure reliable system operations.
- Assist with evaluating, testing, and implementing new technologies to improve mission capabilities and operational effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with Department of Defense cybersecurity policies, configuration management requirements, and organizational security procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related technical discipline; or an equivalent combination of education, military training, and relevant professional experience.
- 3+ years and up to 6+ years of professional experience performing Systems Administration in enterprise or Department of Defense environments.
- Current DoD 8570/8140 Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level II certification, such as CompTIA Security+ required.
- 1+ Systems Administration certifications such as Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Systems Technician (MCST), Server+, or equivalent.
- Active Top Secret security clearance.
- Successfully pass background and drug screening
Preferred Qualifications:- Experience administering Microsoft Windows Server and Linux operating systems.
- Experience installing, configuring, troubleshooting, and maintaining servers, workstations, and virtualized computing environments.
- Knowledge of operating system administration, system patching, account management, backup and recovery, and performance monitoring.
- Experience implementing Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and Department of Defense cybersecurity requirements.
- Ability to troubleshoot hardware, software, operating system, and infrastructure issues.
- Experience supporting Department of Defense, Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), or other military environments.
- Experience administering VMware, Hyper-V, Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), or other virtualization and cloud computing platforms.
- Experience supporting tactical communications systems, mission planning applications, command and control (C2), or C4ISR environments.
- Experience supporting Agile software development and DevSecOps environments.
- Industry certifications such as:
- CompTIA Security+
- Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect
- Microsoft Azure Administrator
- Certified Scrum Developer (CSD)
- Comparable industry-recognized certifications
- Experience supporting Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), decision-support, or advanced data analytics environments.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:- Knowledge of server hardware, virtualization technologies, storage systems, and infrastructure management.
- Knowledge of Department of Defense cybersecurity policies, Information Assurance requirements, and STIG implementation.
- Knowledge of enterprise networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, Active Directory, and network troubleshooting.
- Understanding of virtualization, cloud computing, and hybrid infrastructure environments.
- Ability to install, configure, secure, maintain, and troubleshoot enterprise computing environments.
- Ability to identify, analyze, and resolve complex hardware, software, operating system, and infrastructure issues.
- Ability to maintain accurate technical documentation, system configurations, and operational procedures.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, enterprise management tools, and systems administration utilities
