JOB SUMMARY

The University of Connecticut (UConn) Information Technology Services (ITS) is seeking a Systems Administrator 2 to support technology operations and infrastructure serving the Division of Athletics. Reporting to ITS and working closely with Athletics staff and leadership, this position is responsible for the administration and support of systems, applications, and technology services that enable Athletics operations.

The Systems Administrator serves as a technology resource for Athletics, collaborating with coaches, staff, administrators, vendors, and ITS teams to maintain reliable, secure, and effective technology solutions. Responsibilities include systems administration, technology planning, vendor coordination, security and vulnerability management, project participation, and support of departmental technology initiatives in alignment with university standards and services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer, maintain, and support systems, applications, and technology services used by Athletics.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and security; coordinate remediation activities in accordance with university policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Coordinate with vendors and ITS teams to support the implementation, maintenance, and operation of technology solutions.
  • Assist with the evaluation, selection, implementation, and support of technologies that meet Athletics business and operational needs.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to Athletics staff, coaches, and administrators and coordinate issue resolution with appropriate support teams.
  • Participate in technology projects, service improvements, and operational initiatives supporting Athletics and university objectives.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures, and records related to supported systems and services.
  • Collaborate with Athletics personnel, vendors, and ITS colleagues to support strategic and operational technology goals.
  • Maintain current knowledge of technologies, security practices, and industry trends relevant to assigned responsibilities.
  • Perform related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Eight (8) years of directly related IT experience; OR Associate's degree in a relevant field plus six (6) years of related experience; OR Bachelor's degree in a relevant field plus four (4) years of related experience.
  2. Experience administering Windows server environments, including installation, upgrades, software deployment, patching, and troubleshooting.
  3. Experience managing and supporting enterprise applications.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of system design and analysis principles.
  5. Demonstrated critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  6. Demonstrated written communication and technical documentation skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience supporting technology services in a higher education environment.
  2. Experience supporting technology solutions within collegiate athletics or a similarly complex operational environment.
  3. Experience with enterprise applications, cloud services, and data management.
  4. Demonstrated knowledge of infrastructure, networking, cybersecurity, and identity management technologies (e.g., Network segmentation, Fortinet firewall, Microsoft Defender, Microsoft Entra, multifactor authentication, vulnerability management, and endpoint protection).
  5. Experience working with vendors and stakeholders to evaluate, implement, and support technology solutions.
  6. Experience with scripting, automation, and configuration management technologies (e.g., PowerShell, Ansible, Ansible Automation Platform).
  7. Experience with enterprise monitoring, logging, and operational analytics platforms (e.g., Splunk).
  8. Experience supporting Windows server environments and Microsoft enterprise technologies (e.g., Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Entra, Microsoft 365, and related infrastructure services).
