Title:
System Engineer

Position Summary

We are seeking a Systems Engineer to support mission-critical facility and infrastructure engineering activities for government and aerospace operations. This role is responsible for researching, designing, integrating, and supporting complex facility and engineering systems that enable successful mission execution. The successful candidate will work across multiple engineering disciplines to ensure building systems, operational environments, and supporting infrastructure function as a fully integrated solution.

This position serves as a key technical interface with customers and stakeholders while providing engineering support for facility planning, design, construction, modification, testing, and operational readiness activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research, design, and evaluate subsystem interfaces to ensure integration and compatibility of facility and infrastructure systems.
  • Support engineering activities associated with environmental control systems, electrical systems, HVAC systems, and related mission-support infrastructure.
  • Develop engineering solutions, recommendations, cost estimates, and implementation plans for facility upgrades and modifications.
  • Perform engineering analysis, system evaluations, functional testing, and troubleshooting to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Create, review, and maintain engineering drawings, technical documentation, and design packages.
  • Coordinate with customers, vendors, contractors, and technical teams to support project execution and operational requirements.
  • Manage vendor relationships and oversee contractor work to ensure compliance with project objectives, technical requirements, and schedules.
  • Support the planning, design, buildout, and sustainment of mission operations centers, laboratories, and specialized facilities.
  • Participate in research, planning, equipment fabrication, installation, and commissioning efforts.
  • Translate technical requirements and engineering guidance into actionable plans and designs.
  • Provide technical leadership for assigned projects and task assignments.
  • Mentor and direct junior engineering and technical personnel as required.
  • Serve as a customer-facing representative for Mission Engineering & Services (ME&S) activities and support mission-critical operations.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience of 6 years.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting facility, infrastructure, or systems engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems, HVAC systems, environmental controls, and facility infrastructure.
  • Experience with engineering design, functional analysis, testing, and system integration.
  • Ability to develop and review engineering drawings, technical reports, and project documentation.
  • Experience coordinating cross-functional teams and supporting customer requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a dynamic operational environment.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting aerospace, NASA, government, or mission operations environments.
  • Experience supporting mission control centers, laboratories, or specialized technical facilities.
  • Knowledge of facility planning, construction oversight, and infrastructure modernization projects.
  • Experience developing project cost estimates and evaluating engineering solutions.
  • Previous experience leading engineering tasks or serving in a technical lead capacity.

Basic Compensation:

Jobs on this contract range from $98,000-$146,900. Pay range is specific to the Greenbelt, MD area.

The offered rate will be based on the position, contract affordability, the selected candidate's working location, knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation:

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short-term incentives, long-term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
