Job SummaryResponsible for the overall development and operation of the Clinical Epidemiology / Infection Prevention and Employee Health Departments. Directs/manages the infection control program and directs the implementation of epidemiologic studies and research for the purpose of service line and management support. Directs the development and operation of a comprehensive employee health program for Vandalia Health System.
Responsibilities• Plan, develop, implement and evaluate standardized evidence-based infection prevention and control activities for the health system.
• Direct epidemiologic studies and research activities for outcome and process monitoring.
• Direct the institution, maintenance, and communication of records and data pertinent to monitoring systems.
• Analyze data and direct the implementation of appropriate actions for improvement of outcomes.
• Administer the infection prevention program. Ensure compliance with accreditation and licensing authorities.
• Direct all infection surveillance activities of patient units and develops educational programs for all system personnel.
• Manage the development and revision of all infection prevention and control policies for the system.
• Review the implementation of patient care policies and procedures through the supervision of on-site inspections.
• Supervise the counseling of patients and their families on infection control issues.
• Administer the program for infection prevention related education for the system.
• Represent the system on command center activations, community-based and government committees and task forces.
• Act as a consultant to all departments, subsidiary facilities, and to those facilities with management contracts with system relating to infection prevention and control practices.
• Administer the various Employee Health Programs within the system.
• Develop and implement appropriate standardized Employee Health services to meet the needs of system and appropriate regulatory agencies (OSHA, accrediting body, HIPAA).
• Select, direct the training, counsel, and evaluate departmental personnel.
• Make recommendations for transfers, promotions, and terminations as necessary.
• Prepare the annual departmental operating budgets and the capital budgets based on the type of services anticipated and programs and equipment needs identified.
• Monitors departmental financial performance and justifies changes and variances in budgets as necessary.
• Maintain department, institution, and licensure (if applicable) required education. Document appropriately.
• Responsible for integrating performance improvement into department and institution operations, and demonstrate a commitment to the process.
• Support and assist employee participation in performance improvement processes.
• Reinforce employee understanding of work integration with other departments throughout the institution.
• Delivers presentations to system committees and boards as requested.
• Perform related duties as required.

The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages.
Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients.
