We are looking for a Software Development Engineer (SDEII) to join the Amazon EKS - Kubernetes Controllers team and tackle some of the most challenging distributed systems problems at Amazon. This team owns the EKS core Kubernetes controllers and metrics service infrastructure that underpin hundreds of thousands of production clusters worldwide. In this role, you will design, build, and operate large-scale systems that directly impact how customers run mission-critical workloads on EKS. You will develop and ship customer-facing features for EKS controllers, driving improvements in reliability, observability, and performance. You will identify bottlenecks and optimize core components to meet the demands of the largest AI/ML and enterprise workloads running on Kubernetes today. You will also pioneer the use of GenAI and modern automation to improve operational supportability, reduce toil, and raise the bar on how we operate at scale.

Key job responsibilities
• Collaborate with experienced cross-disciplinary Amazonians to conceive, design, and bring innovative products and services to market.
• Design and build innovative technologies in a large distributed computing environment and help lead fundamental changes in the industry.
• Create solutions to run predictions on distributed systems with exposure to innovative technologies at incredible scale and speed.
• Build distributed storage, index, and query systems that are scalable, fault-tolerant, low cost, and easy to manage/use.
• Design and code the right solutions starting with broadly defined problems.
• Work in an agile environment to deliver high-quality software.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
- 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
- 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Development experience with Golang.
- Experience with at least one of the following: Kubernetes, Mesos, Docker, etcd.
- Experience with container orchestration platforms and virtualization
- Experience with design/architecting large-scale distributed systems preferably using AWS technologies
- Hands-on experience with spec-driven development workflows powered by AI tools
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
