What you'll do

Keeping our systems, technology, and employees safe is a key priority for ViaSat. As a System Administrator for classified systems, you will focus on providing technical support for Viasat's Corporate Information System Security Manager (ISSM).

This role is responsible for technical administration and compliance of SIPRNET (Secret Internet Protocol Router Network), as well as other classified stand-alone, LAN, and WAN systems. Our Ideal candidate must possess prior experience establishing and maintaining SIPRNet connections. You must also be able to work independently, as well as with a team of Systems Administrators, Information Assurance Analysts, Facility Security Officers, internal customers, and external government entities.

The day-to-day

  • Works with the ISSM in establishing and sustaining the ATO and ATC for SIPRNet connections in accordance with 32 CFR Part 117.18, and the Defense Information System Network Connection Process Guide (DISN CPG).
  • Perform various configuration management and system maintenance activities, account management, etc.
  • Maintains records of HW/SW revisions and ensures all actions are documented as required
  • Participate in continuous monitoring, analysis, and response activities related to information system security and incident events.
  • Participate in security audits and assessments to ensure that site SIPRNET infrastructure meets the required security standards and complies with regulations.
  • Conduct site CCRI/CORA self-assessments for all SIPRNet sites within the organization.
  • Ensures systems are operated, maintained, and disposed of in accordance with the governing authority guidance and customer directives.
  • Provides input to our DevOps team to enhance operational efficiencies, consistent implementation, and minimize security risks.
  • Works in areas of proficiency to guide or mentor team members to support team development and continuity of operations.

What you'll need

  • Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical field; equivalent work experience will also be considered.
  • 6+ year of experience administering and securing Windows Server (WIN 10/11, Win Server 2016/19/22/25); Linux (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu); Active Directory; logging and monitoring, file systems, group policy, backup management, TCP/IP, DNS and DHCP in a classified environment.
  • Proficient in maintaining and administering core environmental services (e.g., Active Directory/IdAM, GPOs, logging, monitoring, DNS, DHCP).
  • 4+ years in a DoD, or other industrial security program and solid understanding of DoD Risk Manage Framework (RMF) process.
  • 2+ years of experience in managing Routers and Switches (CISCO certifications a plus).
  • 2+ years of experience administering virtualization solutions (VMware, Hyper-V, OpenShift etc.).
  • 2+ years of experience maintaining a SIPRNet connected environment; working with ACAS, SCAP, HBSS, Certificate Management, Radius, 802.1x, and troubleshooting with DISA and other government entities.
  • Strong attention to detail, skill in critical thinking and research, problem-solving abilities, and the ability to multitask in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, fostering a cohesive and productive work atmosphere.
  • Exceptional communication and writing skills with the ability to convey technical details effectively to diverse stakeholders.
  • You must be able to lift equipment (up to 40lbs) and work within controlled environments.
  • DoD 8140.01 Certification (CISSP, Security+, etc.).
  • Active Secret Security Clearance.

What will help you on the job

  • 2+ years of experience in managing Microsoft Exchange Server.
  • Experience with Juniper, Palo Alto, and Cisco network administration.
  • Experience operating and managing centralized storage platforms (e.g., NetApp) and related backup management services (e.g., Veeam).
  • Experience in a classified cloud environment.
  • Experience using automation and orchestration tools to manage configurations, push updates, and deploy resources.
  • Proficiency in security event monitoring tools like Splunk to evaluate risks and verify mitigation efforts.
  • Experience working with vulnerability and compliance scanning tools. (Nessus, SCAP, ACAS).

Salary range

$121,000.00 - $191,000.00 / annually.For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $150,000.00- $225,000.00/ annually
