SVP, SBA Senior Credit Officer

Banesco USA is seeking an SVP, SBA Senior Credit Officer for our SBA Credit business unit.

Primary Job Duties:

  • The SBA Senior Credit Officer is responsible for the credit quality of the bank's SBA 7a loan portfolio. This role oversees the entire credit life cycle, ensuring that underwriting, portfolio management and collections, as well as special asset activities adhere to both internal bank policies and the latest SBA SOP guidelines.
  • This position oversees three critical functions: Credit Analysis, Portfolio Management and Special Assets within the bank's SBA division.
  • Strategic Leadership: Assist the Deputy Chief Credit Officer in executing the enterprise-wide credit risk framework; set limits, monitor adherence, and align SBA policies with bank risk appetite.
  • Credit Authority: Exercise prudent credit judgment with individual loan approval authority as granted by the Board; approve/decline policy exceptions and loan modifications within established limits.
  • Policy & Compliance: Lead the design and implementation of SBA SOP-compliant procedures; ensure all lending practices strictly adhere to federal/state regulations and industry best practices.
  • Leadership: Provide final decision-making or expert opinions for high-risk/high-value credits.
  • Portfolio Oversight: Manage SBA portfolio requirements (payments, insurance, taxes) and lead "early warning" detection for deteriorating credit trends.
  • Risk Management: Direct internal credit ratings, validate third-party reports (Appraisals, Site Visits), and manage workout plans, deferments, and collateral valuations.
  • Reporting & Audit: Serve as primary liaison for regulatory examinations; prepare monthly Watch List comments and quarterly Adversely Classified Reports.
  • Team Management: Supervise, train, and provide technical guidance to the SBA portfolio management and collections teams.
  • Responsible for completing annual training program assigned.
  • Performs other functions and/or duties as assigned.


Job Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's in Finance/Accounting (MBA preferred).
  • Experience: 10+ years in Credit Risk/Lending, including 5+ years in senior leadership.
  • Experience with delegated lending authority in approving transactions up to $5MM for 5 + years.
  • Experience with the SBA 7a and Express loan programs, teams, and policies.
  • Experience as or working with an LSP (Lender Service Provider) is a plus.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of credit principles, banking regulations (OFR, FDIC, FRB, FFIEC), and audit/regulatory relations.
  • Leadership: Proven track record in department management, change initiatives, and aligning operations with bank objectives.
  • Communication: Skilled in presenting technical concepts to stakeholders at all levels, from staff to the Board of Directors.
  • Software: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
