$20,000 SIGN ON BONUS WITH A 3 YEAR COMMITMENT!

JOB SUMMARY:

Oversee the daily operations of the surgery department. Responsible for the procurement and maintenance of equipment and supplies, staffing and training employees, and budgeting. May oversee pre-and post-operative care of patients. May require a master's degree in a related area and at least 10 years of experience in the field. Familiar with a variety if the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complex tasks. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required. Typically reports to an executive.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Integrates the department(s) and its services into the organization's primary mission


  • Promotes a positive work environment which enhances employee and patient satisfaction


  • Assumes a leadership role in professional activities through public speaking opportunities and participating in hospital and community activities


  • Provides a written annual report, evaluating both personal and department objectives with plans for the next year


  • Coordinates and integrates services within the department(s) and with other department


  • Collaborates with other department leaders to design and deliver integrated patient care


  • Directs, supervises and supports the on-going programs at SRMC


  • Develops and implements policies and procedures that guide and support the provision of services


  • Ensures all policies and procedures are current and relevant


  • Ensures that care is delivered to each patient in accordance with the PA Nurse Practice Act, appropriate clinical standards, regulatory agencies and hospital policy


  • Recommends a sufficient number of qualified and competent persons to provide care.


  • Employs progressive discipline for attendance problems and provides supportive documentation for direct reports


  • Ensures review and update of position control within required time frame


  • Develops, Justifies and maintains fiscal plan for departments


  • Review monthly operating reports, submits financial analysis and justification for negative monthly expenditures with recommendations for solutions


  • Determines the qualifications and competence of department personnel who provide care services and who are not licensed independent practitioners


  • Provides daily feedback as necessary to individual staff members regarding to their performance


  • Participates in the interviewing, hiring, and termination of employees as needed
  • Performs employee performance appraisals within the HR policy requirements
    • Reviews employee performance appraisals within scope of responsibility

    • Continuously assesses and improves the department's performance

    • Makes daily rounds to assess the status of the patient and the quality of care delivered

    • Conducts and/or attends monthly staff meetings and documents those meetings according to policy

    • Utilizes monitoring tools to measure customer service and fiscal performance

    • Demonstrates the ability to collect and analyze numerical and written data to reach logical conclusions

    • Maintains appropriate quality control program

    • Keeps leaders appraised of critical patients/patient care issues

    • Participates in performance improvement activities, including data collection, development of indicators, chart review and evaluation criteria

    • Provides for orientation, in-service education training and continuing education of all persons in the department(s)

    • Ensures staff participation in mandatory in-service programs as evidenced by Competency Data Records.

    • Ensures staff receive proper orientation prior to assuming patient care responsibilities. Meets regularly with the new employees to monitor progress and maintain orientation documentation

    • Develops and maintains leadership capabilities of clinical managers, supervisors and charge nurses

    • Recommends a space and other resources needed to by the department(s)

    • Participates in the fiscal and strategic planning and marketing of services within the scope of responsibility

    • Participates in selecting outside sources for needed services

    • Maintains and recommends use of outside resources


Education:

Preferred: Bachelor's of Nursing

Certification/Licensure: CPR Certification

Clearances: Required: As required by federal and State Law
