Job Summary

The Cardiovascular & Thoracic Surgery (CVTS) Physician Assistant provides high-quality, patient-centered care in collaboration with supervising physicians, practicing within the scope of their education, training, and clinical experience. This role supports the full continuum of cardiac and thoracic surgical care, including pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative management.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Obtain comprehensive patient histories and perform detailed physical examinations
  • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • Develop, implement, and manage individualized treatment plans for cardiac and thoracic surgery patients
  • Monitor patient progress and response to interventions, adjusting care plans as appropriate
  • First assist in cardiovascular and thoracic surgical procedures
  • Provide post-operative care, including ICU and step-down unit management
  • Educate patients and families on diagnoses, procedures, recovery, and long-term care plans
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes
  • Facilitate appropriate referrals and continuity of care

In emergency situations, the Physician Assistant is authorized to provide immediate medical and surgical care when delay would result in serious harm or threat to life, in accordance with hospital policies and applicable regulations.

This position requires a rotating schedule -Three 12.5-hr shifts per week/ 6 shifts per (2wk) pay period. Shifts include days, nights, weekends, holidays.
