This Senior Data Analyst role will pay a critical function within the Surest Ontology Team to support the design, performance, and continuous improvement of Surest's Ontology and Search experience. Surest Ontology is the foundational framework and source of truth that Surest uses to organize, define, price, display, and adjudicate healthcare services across the member experience. This role is responsible for translating complex healthcare and benefit design data to improve search relevance, ontology accuracy, and downstream operational outcomes. This individual will partner closely with Product, Technology, Operations, and Benefit Design to ensure that Ontology structures and Search logic align with business intent and consumer needs.
You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.
Primary Responsibilities:- Analyze Ontology structures to identify gaps, inconsistencies, and opportunities for optimization
- Provide analytical support for Ontology changes, including upstream inputs and downstream dependencies
- Implementation of Search data enhancements
- Develop repeatable analyses to validate data integrity and configuration accuracy
- Analyze search behavior, query patterns, and user interaction data to identify opportunities to improve search relevance and accuracy
- Translate complex datasets into clear, actionable insights for business and technical stakeholders
- Establish and maintain data quality checks for Ontology and search data
- Support documentation and standardization of analytical methodologies

Required Qualifications:- 5+ years of experience in data analysis, preferably in healthcare, insurance or digital product environments
- 5+ years of experience with data modeling concepts
- 5+ years of experience using SQL and relational databases
- 5+ years of experience with Python or R for data analysis
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience working with healthcare administrative data (e.g. claims, encounter, clinical, provider etc.)
- Demonstrated working knowledge of clinical data domains, code sets and ontologies (e.g. ICD, SNOMED, RxNorm)
- Willing and able to travel 10% +/- depending on business need
Preferred Qualifications:- 1+ year experience with cloud computing (AWS, Azure) and data platforms such as Databricks and Snowflake
- Experience working with search platforms, search analytics, or relevance tuning
- Experience presenting research methods and findings to stakeholders
- Familiarity with taxonomy
- Proven exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects in a highly dynamic environment
- Proven high attention to detail
- Proven innate curiosity to learn more

The salary for this role will range from $91,700 - $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
