Job Description
The Industrial Supply Branch Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations and profitability ofIndustrial Supply in Juneau, Alaska. This role demands a hands-on approach, integrating team leadership with inventory management, freight operations, technical product sales, and direct customer service across various industrial product lines.
The Manager is tasked with enhancing the industrial supply experience for a diverse clientele, including local hospitals, welding shops, and sectors such as marine, mining, and fabrication. Key responsibilities include ensuring the store remains well-stocked, safe, efficient, and continues to grow. Success in this position requires a versatile operator adept at managing personnel, utilizing an ERP system, fabricating hydraulic hoses at the counter, and handling freight unloading.
Leadership and Team Management
• Supervise and develop a team of four: one Assistant Manager and three Counter / Customer Service staff, including scheduling, coaching, performance management, and training.
• Set the standard for customer service, product knowledge, safety, and store presentation.
• Build a culture consistent withemployee-owned (ESOP) values of accountability and ownership.
Inventory, Purchasing, and ERP
• Order and manage stock in the company ERP system (Point of Rental), maintaining appropriate inventory levels across all product lines and minimizing stock-outs and overstock.
• Create and maintain accurate part numbers, pricing, and vendor records.
• Order and receive freight; verify counts, reconcile receipts, and resolve discrepancies with vendors and carriers.
Freight and Logistics
• Load and unload freight, including container and barge shipments common to Southeast Alaska.
• Coordinate inbound and outbound logistics, delivery scheduling, and freight documentation.
Product Lines, Sales, and Fabrication
• Compressed and industrial gases: order, manage, and deliver gases to the local hospital and to welding and industrial shops; ensure proper handling, cylinder tracking, and DOT-compliant transport (49 CFR).
• Metals: order, receive, stock, and sell metal in various thicknesses, sheets, and bars for fabrication customers.
• Parker hydraulic hoses: order, receive, sell, and fabricate hydraulic hose assemblies to spec for a range of applications.
• Boss Snowplows: order, sell, and support Boss plows and associated parts and accessories.
• General industrial supply: stock shelves, merchandise the store, and drive counter and account sales across the full product mix.
Operations, Safety, and Compliance
• Ensure a clean, safe, and organized store and yard in compliance with company Health and Safety policies and applicable regulations.
• Maintain compliance for hazardous materials handling, storage, and transportation of compressed gases.
• Monitor branch performance, control costs, and contribute to gross margin and growth targets.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the branch and the company.
Requirements
Proven experience in industrial supply, distribution, equipment, or a related trade / operations environment.
• Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience managing a team.
• Proficiency with ERP or inventory management systems and standard business software.
• Mechanical aptitude and willingness to perform hands-on work, including hydraulic hose fabrication and freight handling.
• Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate a forklift and delivery vehicles (certification provided or supported).
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly and work in a physically active warehouse and counter environment.
• Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with compressed / industrial gas handling and DOT hazardous materials requirements.
• Familiarity with hydraulic hose assembly (Parker or equivalent), metals, or fabrication supply.
• Knowledge of Southeast Alaska freight, barge logistics, and the local trades / marine / mining customer base.
• Experience in a P&L or branch-level accountability role.
