Duties

• The primary purpose for the establishment of this job is to serve as the Principal Staff Advisor for the Division's Safety Program (a comprehensive 24-hour a day program).
• Serving as Chief of the Safety Office and subject matter expert for all safety issues.
• As the Division SOH Director, incumbent serves as a member of the Division Commander's personal staff.
• Exercises primary responsibility for planning, developing, implementing, coordinating, evaluating, and supervising the Division's Safety Program.
• Develops information releases concerning the Division Safety Program, and participates in or serves as a featured speaker at conferences to include those involving allied nations.
• Serves as senior safety coordinator to staff elements on the planning and conduct of major training exercises. Serves as the principal staff advisor for the Division on all accident prevention matters.
• Include force protection (safety risk management), safety policies and procedures, accident reporting and analysis.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This is an EMERGENCY ESSENTIAL (E-E) position subject to deployment.
• Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
• Incumbent will be required to DEPLOY (world-wide) with assigned/attached units for periods up 365 days. A physical examination for deployment is required.
• Incumbent will be required to pass a military standard physical examination. A pre-appointment physical examination is required.
• The military ACU is the duty uniform (when deployed, or in field environments). Incumbent will be issued standard TA-50 for use per local requirements.
• Incumbent must possess and be able to maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
• Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain a U.S. Government Vehicle drivers license within 30 days of employment and be able to maintain the same.
• Incumbent may be required to work nights, weekends, holidays and/or irregular duty hours commensurate with mission requirements.
• Incumbent may be required to perform TDY up to 50% of the time on an annual basis.
• Incumbent is exposed on a regular and recurring basis to machines and equipment in operation, hazardous materials including compressed gases and flammable liquids, and construction hazards.
• Incumbent must frequently work outdoors with temperature extremes.
• Exposure to dust, high noise levels, wind, sand, and environments of fumes and smoke are encountered.
• Exposure to elements associated in combat and contingency operations in CONUS and OCONUS locations.
• Employee may be required to perform work requiring chemical protective masks and protective clothing.
• Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain standard Army Safety Program certification. Continuous education and training in a tactical field environment is required.
• Incumbent must be able to meet weapons qualifications requirements.
• Work involves frequent visits and temporary duty at field sites as well as deployment and participation in military exercises in a variety of environments.
• During deployment, physical demands may be greatly increased and require extended walking with a rucksack weighing up to 50 lbs.
• Rations and quarters may be similar to that provided to military personnel.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Manage the organization including determining long-range goals Safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes Managing safety or occupational health program, developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management, and applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience aloneno substitution of education for experience is permitted.

ADDITIONAL CONDITIONS OF EMLOYMENT:

This mandates walking, standing, stooping, bending, carrying and similar movements, as well as agility, stamina, and dexterity.

This position has been designated a Testing Designated Position and is therefore covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program.

A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
