Summary

This position is located in the Dental Program at the Quentin N. Burdick Memorial Health Care Facility, Belcourt, ND. The purpose of this position is the responsibility for the planning, organization, and administration of a comprehensive dental health services program.

Duties

Help

• Responsible for planning, organization, and administration of a comprehensive dental health services program for the Service Unit Dental Program.
• Provided dental care services to individuals eligible for services provided by the Health Care Facility in homes, schools, clinics, job sites, and other community locations within the Service Unit.
• Plans the work to be accomplished by staff, sets and adjusts priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work, evaluates work performance, and recommends appointment, promotion, or reassignment.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

Individual Occupational Requirements

Basic Requirements

Education: Applicants must have a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from a school approved by the American Dental Association (ADA) or the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Board Dental Examinations (NBDE) which are developed and administered by the Joint Commission on National Dental Examinations (JCNDE) and possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice dentistry in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

GS13: Applicants must complete a 3-year residency program in dentistry, oral health, craniofacial sciences, or a related medical science; or equivalent experience, equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, and/or training obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: An experienced dentist who has demonstrated administrative and leadership skills by supervising or leading a department, hands-on-clinical work practicing dentistry such as evaluation, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases, injuries, and disorders of the oral cavity and maxillofacial area; Providing consultation on complex cases; Oversight and administration of all aspects of dental service and guidance and training for dental students and department staff.

Some dentists specialize in an area, such as, but not limited to, the following:

• Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics
• Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
• Pediatric Dentistry
• Periodontics
• Prosthodontics
• Endodontics
• Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology
• Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology
• Dental Public Health

For the above specialty areas, experience, education, board certification, and/or training must clearly establish the applicant's status as a specialist.

Medical Requirements: Applicants must be able to distinguish shades of color.

A one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required upon selection/placement.

This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children. Due to this requirement, the agency must ensure that persons hired for these positions have not been found guilty of or pleaded nolo contendere or guilty to certain crimes.

Time In Grade

Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).

Additional information

Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. IHS may offer newly-appointed Federal employees credit for their directly related previous non-federal experience or active duty uniformed military service. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave.

• This position is ineligible for the Bargaining Unit.
• Recruitment or relocation incentives may be authorized. You will be required to sign a service agreement.
• This position has no promotion potential.
