Primary Duties

The Supervisor, Sustainability & Climate Action leads the development and implementation of Utilities Kingston's sustainability, climate action, conservation and energy management initiatives. The incumbent provides leadership to a multidisciplinary team responsible for corporate sustainability initiatives, emissions accounting, regulatory conservation programs, research and strategic planning to support the organization's environmental commitments and long-term business objectives.

Major Responsibilities:
1. Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team responsible for sustainability, climate action, energy and emissions management, and conservation programs.
2. Provide strategic leadership for the planning, implementation, continuous improvement and reporting of Utilities Kingston's Climate Action Leadership Plan and corporate sustainability initiatives.
3. Develop, monitor, and report on corporate greenhouse gas emissions, climate action performance, and sustainability metrics to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
4. Oversee the design, delivery, evaluation, and continuous improvement of internal and externally funded conservation and demand-side management programs, ensuring program effectiveness and value.
5. Support energy efficiency and conservation initiatives across corporate facilities and operations.
6. Integrate sustainability and climate action objectives into corporate planning, long-term strategies, and operational decision-making.
7. Champion sustainability and climate action across the organization by fostering awareness, collaboration, and organizational engagement.
8. Monitor legislative, regulatory and industry developments to ensure compliance with applicable energy, conservation, and environmental requirements and identify emerging opportunities.
9. Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with government agencies, municipalities, utilities, educational institutions, and industry organizations to advance research, pilot projects, funding opportunities, and innovation.
10. Prepare and oversee funding applications and ensure effective stewardship of program budgets and financial resources.
11. Represent Utilities Kingston on industry committees, community initiatives, and external stakeholder groups related to sustainability, conservation, and climate action.
12. Foster engagement and a positive work environment and ensure transparency and consistency in dealing with staff.

Education, Certification and Other Qualifications Required

1. Post secondary degree/diploma in Engineering, Energy Systems/Management, Environmental Studies or a related discipline
2. CET, P.Eng. required or suitable combination of PMP, CEM and/or CMVP designation may be considered with appropriate experience
3. 3-5 years' of progressively responsible experience in sustainability, climate action, environmental management or a related field, preferably within a municipal or utility environment
4. Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and delivering environmental sustainability, climate action or energy management initiatives
5. Class G drivers' licence

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
1. Advanced literacy in energy and water management
2. Intermediate knowledge of provincial conservation programs and regulations
3. Intermediate knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety requirements as it relates to individuals, the organization and operational requirements
4. Intermediate knowledge of public procurement processes and procurement methods
5. Basic knowledge of water, wastewater and/or gas system regulations, design principles and standards
6. Basic knowledge of the ESA, 2000
7. Advanced written and verbal communication skills
8. Advanced ability to collaborate, gain consensus and foster change
9. Ability to blend technical knowledge and interpersonal skills to drive continuous improvement, systems thinking and process implementation
10. Advanced O365 skills
11. Intermediate experience using various energy modeling applications (e.g. RETScreen)
12. Intermediate project management skills
