Description

1. Hires, fires, evaluates, coaches, counsels and trains Pharmacy staff. Supervises professional and technical staff in their day-to-day responsibilities.

2. Verifies appropriateness of all doses in reference to the child's diagnosis, weight, age and body surface area.

3. Identifies and intervenes when problems involving drug therapy arise e.g.. allergies, drug interactions, therapeutic duplications, adverse drug reactions, compatibility etc.

4. Verifies appropriateness of drug selected, initiates drug therapy when needed and suggests equally efficacious but less expensive therapy.

5. Evaluates need for all non-formulary drugs.

6. Assures that patients receive the ordered medication as to dose, route, salt, regimen and generic substitution.

7. Assures that all medications meet the highest standards in quality and preparation of the final dosage form and that all drug products are neatly prepared and labeled, including the use of appropriate auxiliary labels/comments.

8. Participates in the education and training of pharmacists, technicians, interns, students and patients.

9. Performs drug information activities. Reviews patients and assesses compliance with AC criteria for food-drug interactions, breast milk drug assessment, therapeutic drug monitoring and DUE as required. Completes documentation.

10. Organizes staffing schedules, handles call-ins and adjusts staffing as dictated by workload including calling in additional staff if workload requires additional staffing. Approves changes to staffing plan when appropriate.

11. Investigates all Safety Tracker incidents and performs follow-up. Advises management team on operational changes needed to improve safety.

12. Takes call and fills in for staff pharmacists as needed or requested.

13. Manages specific responsibilities to maintain safe and effective medication use system.

14. Will act as the Senior Clinical Staff Person when assigned to the Specialty Pharmacy.

15. Ensure the medication use process is compliant with Arkansas Board of Pharmacy, Joint Commission, CMS, FDA, specialty pharmacy accreditation bodies, and other regulatory agencies when assigned to the Specialty Pharmacy.

16. Performs other duties as assigned.
