Description

Under the direction of the Director, Educational Technology and Information Services, the Supervisor of Information Systems performs a variety of tasks related to the supervision and management of the district's computerized student information system and all related software/databases; school enrollment, testing and data management; creates reports and analyzes data for state reporting; imports and/or converts data into other programs and databases; supervises and participates in the coordination and delivery of information systems services to district users.

CURRENT VACANCY: One full-time classified management position (8 hrs/day, 12 mos/yr), with full district-paid benefits, in the Educational Technology & Information Services Department, at the Administration Center. Benefits include medical, dental, vision and life insurance.

-Maintain and administer current and future versions of Microsoft SQL Server, or other Database Management Systems used by the District.
-Set up, maintain and run reports on the district's Microsoft SQL-based student information system and all related software/databases.
-Maintain and administer Web servers, including software applications, frameworks, software stacks, authentication and security.
-Utilize SQL-based tools to build complex, highly focused queries, stored procedures, views, pivot tables, etc., enabling users to sort data and generate reports in both electronic and printed formats.
-Maintain the district's Student Information System for the purpose of ensuring its availability and reliable operation.
-Analyze data for State Report submission - CALPADS, CBEDS, R30, ELC, Annual Maintenance, Anomalies.
-Develop and enforce database administration and user standards and procedures; audit, modify, and amend security and access control on database and web servers.
-Provide information systems advisory services to district personnel.
-Direct and supervise Information Analysts.
-Define and supervise user access and security.
-Define user programming needs.
-Develop user manual and bulletins.
-Coordinate installation and use of vendor supplied software.
-Work with vendors to resolve software problems.
-Supervise and evaluate assigned staff.
-Perform related duties, as assigned.
Employment Standards

Minimum Requirements:
Three years of responsible experience in database administration.

Desirable Qualifications:
-A Bachelor's degree and experience with Student Information Systems are highly desirable.
-Courses in computers, accounting, business or public administration, or management and supervision.
-Supervisory experience.
-Written and oral proficiency in a second language.

Probationary period: 130 days of paid service.
Prior to employment, a candidate must submit proof of freedom from tuberculosis. Also required after an offer of employment are a pre-employment physical exam (district-paid) and fingerprint clearance with the Department of Justice.

Salary: The beginning salary is shown on each examination announcement. New employees start at the first step. Employees with satisfactory service receive salary increases upon completion of their probationary period and at one-year intervals thereafter, up to the maximum rate.

Holidays: Regular classified employees are entitled to pay for authorized holidays, provided they were in a paid status during any portion of the working day immediately preceding or succeeding the holiday.

Sick Leave: One day of sick leave earned per month, accumulation is unlimited.

Retirement: All new employees who work half time or more must become members of the California Public Employees Retirement System and the Federal Social Security program. Contributions are withheld from salary. Employees may become eligible for retirement at age 50 with a minimum of five years service.

Examination Process: A review of the applicants' experience and qualifications will be conducted. Based on that evaluation, a limited number of applicants whose qualifications best meet the current needs of the district will be invited to participate in the next step of the examination process. The examination process will consist of one or more related test parts covering any subject matter appropriate to the duties of the position. Qualified applicants will be advised of the test components and weights prior to the administration of the first test part.

Eligibility List: Candidates successfully completing all phases of the application and examination procedure will be ranked on the appropriate eligibility list according to their total examination scores. This list is normally in effect for one year.

Classification: When a vacant position is to be filled, the top three reachable ranks from the eligibility list are contacted for employment interviews. The supervisor of the vacant position will interview those candidates and may make a selection from any one of them. Depending on the vacancy, current employees in the same classification who have a transfer request on file, may also be interviewed. New employees must serve a six-month or one-year probationary period, depending on the classification involved.

Fingerprint Requirement: California state law requires that all classified employees be fingerprinted. Candidates are responsible for paying the fees.

Certificate of Tuberculosis Examination: New employees must furnish proof that within the last 60 days they have had a Mantoux tuberculin skin test.

Accommodation: In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, applicants with disabilities may request that reasonable accommodation be given related to the actual examination process. Requests must be made at the time of application.

Physical Examination: As a condition of employment, all prospective new hires must receive District approval relating to their fitness to work based on a physical examination and laboratory tests, which include a urinalysis. The urinalysis includes a drug screening. These tests must be given by a District-approved physician.

Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Training (AB1432): As a state requirement, all prospective employees of the district are required to complete the Mandated Reported Educators Training course, prior to their start date of employment. The training must also be completed annually thereafter.

Veterans Preference: Five additional points of credit are added in entry-level examinations to the final passing score of qualified veterans showing 30 days or more service during time of war (10 points for disabled veterans) upon presentation of proof of veterans' status (Form DD-214). This evidence must be presented during the examination procedure. No credit will be given after this period.
