Overview

Reporting to the Superintendent 6 Health and Safety, the Supervisor - Safety is responsible for assisting with the development and operational health and safety teams, you will provide technical advice, support and coaching as well as playing a key leadership role in influencing line management in the fulfilment of their health and safety accountabilities.

Location: Blackwater Mine site

Schedule: Two (2) Weeks On 6 Two (2) Weeks Off Rotation

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrate effective safety leadership by addressing and enforcing BW Golds safety standards, procedures, and safety systems.
  • Assist, coach, and mentor the Safety and Training teams.
  • Contribute to the Blackwater project development/operations goals, based on the Artemis Gold strategy.
  • Develop and continuously improve the Blackwater project 27s safety training management standards, procedures, tools, and programs to enable the operations to effectively manage safety risk.
  • Provide the development and review of business planning, safety, and training strategies, plans and performance targets.
  • Engage and collaborate with business stakeholders including front-line and management to ensure programs developed are relevant and effective.
  • Visibly lead and coach safe behaviors, coaching leaders in hazard identification, risk management processes including Risk Assessments, Workplace Interactions, and incident investigation processes.
  • Deliver specialist, independent and technically capable safety support, tools, coaching and training to process owners.
  • Assist with the incident management process, verifying the quality of event and incident reporting, and ensuring incident investigations are completed to the required standard.
  • Accountable for accurate and timely reporting of safety performance, and the progress of safety improvement programs as well as supporting consolidated month-end reporting.
  • Supporting the site HSE Committee to collaboratively develop and implement health and safety focus areas and corrective actions.
  • Assist, support, and coach business leaders in developing their understanding of legislation and training compliance requirements.
  • Facilitate the review of training Standards, Policies and Procedures to ensure legislative compliance.
  • Develop and manage Safety Training Business Plan, update on progress, and deliver on objectives.
  • Work with operational and functional leaders to identify training and development requirements to support business strategies and priorities.
  • Establish and maintain effective budget management and cost control.
  • Facilitate all training and personnel qualifications to support the emergency response plans and procedures in accordance with the revised 2022 H 26S reclamation code.
  • Assist with supporting employees within the Employee Development Pathway and maintaining appropriate records.
  • Other duties as agreed.
  • May be required to maintain a clean-shaven appearance (i.e. no facial hair) to ensure the safe and effective use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) associated with assigned duties.
Qualifications

Seven (7) to ten (10) years 27 experience in mine-site health and safety.Over five (5) years 27 management or supervisory experience within the mining industry and sound understanding of the mining processes, along with the possession of knowledge of Health 26 Safety management systems and standards. Experience in development and implementation of mine health and safety management system and its elements in collaboration and consultation with the key stakeholders. Sound knowledge and understanding of the Mine Act and BC Health Safety Reclamation Code and experience interacting with the regulator. Experience in conducting incident and accident investigation to improve workplace safety. Superlative communication and presentation skills, particularly in presenting safety related, and project information in a concise and precise manner. Natural leader with an ability to gain cooperation and support through discussion, negotiations, and persuasion. Self-starter who can when needed work autonomously, and alternatively thrives in a group dependent and interactive task environment. Professional Health and Safety Certifications (CRSP, CRST, CSP, etc.) is desirable but not necessary. Prior knowledge and/or experience in Industrial Hygiene and workplace ergonomics is favourable. Strong acumen across the Microsoft suite of software packages including SharePoint. Experience in cold weather development and operational activities and interactive task environment.

Ability to work at a remote location camp on a 2 weeks on/2 weeks off rotation. Comfortable working and living in close quarters with the team. Ability to maintain high levels of performance over 12-hour shifts. Ability to lift/move up to 50lbs throughout a work shift. Ability to work in extreme weather conditions
