Full Job Description
Position Overview

The Supervisor, Analytical Laboratory reports to the Analytical Manager and oversees both operation and staff associated with high complexity laboratory operations in a specified area of the department. Based on the scope of the assigned area, activities may include process validation, test method validation, risk management, change control, and supplier management, as well as acting as a subject matter expert in the assigned areas and supervising, supporting and guiding day to day operations and a team of employees. This position assists leadership by defining clear and realistic goals, clearing barriers to success, and understanding of skills and tasks associated with successful execution. This person is also responsible for supporting a collaborative environment that promotes positive teamwork where all members are working for the good of Exact Sciences and to ensure analytical laboratory operations are running smoothly.

Essential Duties

Include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Maintain compliance with all applicable regulations; ensure that successful, effective, efficient, and safe laboratory practices are adhered to.
  • Ensure quality management programs are in compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, and other state or federal organizations.
  • Develop day to day schedules, assign personnel to complete scheduled tasks and reprioritize due to changing business needs.
  • Develop and monitor quality control benchmarks within processes to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Review, update and maintain standard operating procedures.
  • Facilitate training of staff including development of training programs and competency assessments.
  • Work strategically with department supervisors and managers to ensure high complexity testing is completed within advertised turnaround time.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects and support other area needs dependent on demand. Lead or assist with validation of new high complexity methodologies and/or incorporating new technologies into the department workflow. Ability to effectively manage multiple projects within defined timelines and prioritize when necessary.
  • Ability to interface, work effectively, and conduct themselves in a professional manner with all levels of the organization, vendors, customers, etc.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and adapt to changing workload and circumstances effectively; able to respond to new information quickly.
  • Manage laboratory budgets, ensuring expenditures and resource allocation across projects for general supplies and equipment aligns with approved budgets.
  • Monitor quality control trends for lab testing on both an operational and personnel level. Coordinate troubleshooting and correcting of issues with reagents, lab practices and/or personnel.
  • Coordinate and document instrument performance, calibration, maintenance, cleaning and repair.
  • Assist in laboratory space and facilities planning; recommend capital expenditures related to scalability and resiliency.
  • Oversee the ordering of laboratory supplies and equipment.
  • Assist technicians in review of lab issues including being a resource on QC, troubleshooting, and laboratory equipment.
  • Identify and document non-conforming events, perform root-cause analysis, and develop correct and preventive action plans.

  • Ability to work on a mobile device, tablet, or in front of a computer screen and/or perform typing for approximately 60% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to work seated for approximately 60% of a typical working day. Ability to work standing for approximately 40% of a typical working day. [Note: office positions can accommodate sitting and standing needs, so this may not be relevant. If use, needs to equal 100%.].
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds for approximately 5% of a typical working day.
  • Ability to grasp with both hands; pinch with thumb and forefinger; turn with hand/arm; reach above shoulder height.
  • Ability to comply with any applicable personal protective equipment requirements.
  • May perform repetitious actions using lab tools.
  • May be exposed to hazardous materials, tissue specimens, and instruments with moving parts, lasers, heating and freezing elements, and high-speed centrifugation.


Minimum Qualifications
  • Associates degree in a laboratory science (chemical or biological science) or medical laboratory technology from an accredited institution or equivalent laboratory training and experience as defined:
    • 60 semester hours or equivalent from an accredited institution that, at a minimum, includes either 24 semester hours of medical laboratory technology courses, OR 24 semester hours of science courses that include six semester hours of chemistry, six semester hours of biology, and 12 semester hours of chemistry, biology or medical laboratory technology in any combination.
  • 4+ years of high complexity testing experience in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Familiarity with regulatory bodies including ISO, OSHA, CAP, CLIA, and state regulatory bodies.
  • 1+ years of experience leading or directing people and/or project teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
  • Authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.


Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science, medical technology or chemical or biological science.
  • 5+ years of molecular diagnostics experience with in-depth knowledge of quality control, instrumentation, and software used in area of focus.
  • 2+ years in a role with progressively increasing responsibilities, such as quality and control, lead technologist, or technical specialist.
  • Possession of active ASCP certification in QLS, MLS, MLT, or MB.

Salary Range:
$69,000.00 - $122,000.00

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - WI - Marshfield on a full-time basis. In addition, this position is bonus eligible.
