Full Job Description
SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Supervising Occupational Health Nurse is an integral member of the site EHS Team whose primary responsibility is to manage the site Occupational Health staff and associated programs. In addition the position will provide subject matter expertise and advanced leadership for successful development, implementation and maintenance of a high performing Occupational Health system for the assigned sites. The Supervising Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for Occupational Health and Medical monitoring program; work related injury treatment and occupational return to work case management. Occupation Health nursing is the specialty practice that provides for and delivers health and medical services to employees and distinct service groups within the company (EHS Professionals, HR Professionals, Managers, general public, etc…). The focus of this position is on the treatment of work related illness and injury, and protection from occupational hazards. This position will make independent nursing judgments for the purpose of effectively managing workplace injuries, maintaining medical records, providing appropriate medical emergency response leadership, interfacing with Workers Compensation administrators and partnering with EHS functions (corporate and site) to promote reduction of EHS risk for employees. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES: Supervise the Occupational Health staff. Supervise and maintain the medical monitoring program for assigned locations. Maintaining operational compliance with standing physician orders for assigned locations. Manage, coordinate and direct the care provided by assigned medical provider staff (nurses, paramedics, EMT, etc) at locations(s) assigned. Serve as leader and/or subject matter expert with assigned EHS resources for development, improvement and/or update of EHS policy and programs. This position also serves on the leadership team for the emergency response system and provides leadership for medical response capabilities at other assigned Mallinckrodt locations. Develop and implement procedures to improve medical response capability at each location. Maintains the medical facility and ensures security of medical records in accordance with HIPPA regulations. Manage assigned medical department budget for all assigned locations. Manage and maintain Fitness Center and basic membership programs at assigned locations. Serve in an advance leadership capacity for the Emergency Response teams for assigned locations while assuming the lead role for medical related response and team activity issues. Maintain Spirometry, Audiometric and ABOHN Certification for the entire medical staff of assigned locations. Maintains injury treatment and diagnosis information, assists EHS with OSHA log record keeping and monthly reports. Maintains current CPR/FA/AED/BBP certification. Operation of contract medical assistance at all assigned locations. This includes physician scheduling, interaction, nursing support and overall communications. Has familiarity with the accident and health hazards that are common to this facility and the type of safety equipment being utilized. Plans and works within acceptable/approved budget maintaining appropriate equipment and adequate supplies. Disseminates health education information and advises employee and management on application of basic and advanced occupational health practices. Maintains medical records; ensures confidentiality according to enterprise policy and procedures. Serves as active member of site ergonomics team and active participant of potent compound team. Attends 25 hours (minimum) of seminars per year to maintain career growth, to keep updated on current changes within the profession and to promote professionalism. Other duties as assigned with or without accommodation. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Education: BS in Nursing or related field required. (preferred) Current license as a registered nurse in the State of Practice is required (can be obtained), Current RN licensure with BSN required, COHN or COHN-S preferred. Experience: Minimum of 8 to 12 years experience in Occupational Health, Emergency Care or Ambulatory Care facility. Skills/Qualifications: Familiar with DOT drug testing requirements, ADA and Blood Borne Pathogens. Trained in First Aid, CPR and AED, Current training in administration of spirometry testing, Current CAHOC Certification in Hearing Conservation required, Ability to perform patient assessment, Knowledge of professional Medical administration philosophies and strategies; technical writing; computer literate; a desire to develop others through coaching and facilitation. Competencies: Must demonstrate strong verbal, written, analytical skills as well as have the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees. Basic computer skills. Exceptional interpersonal skills and willingness to work in a team environment The expected base pay range for this position is $90,525 - 122,475.Please note that base pay offered may vary depending on factors including job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE: Position reports to Corporate Manager Occupational Health (or designee) with a dotted line report to the Plant EHS Manager. Also serves as the medical response function leadership for the site Emergency Response Teams. Position would have direct line reports and/or dotted line organizational reporting associations based on organizational needs and incumbent demonstrated skills. As a part of the site EHS team, this position will periodically be assigned to Occupational Health and/or other corporate EHS functional group initiatives and/or teams as well as directed to assist other Mallinckrodt locations with Occupational Health and/or EHS issues and projects (remote or travel to location). It is expected that travel may occur. Otherwise, frequent to occasional regional and/or international travel is expected for this position as needed. Works with no onsite direct supervision and most decisions are made without direct input from up line managers. Decisions are based upon the incumbents experience, judgment and understanding of regulatory requirements, management systems and enterprise strategies and objectives. Financial responsibilities include following assigned operating budgets, completing and/or approving expenditure reports and providing the input on necessary capital expenditures to maintain operations of Occupational Health and/or EHS systems and to maintain or improve assigned site(s) compliance. WORKING CONDITIONS: The Senior Occupational Health Nurse will perform the above-mentioned duties from an office location at the assigned site(s) with substantial and regular time spent in clinic, manufacturing, warehouse, laboratory and maintenance shop environments. Position may require occasional moderate to strenuous physical work necessary for emergency response, patient handling and equipment management duties. Position requires frequent travel to other internal sites and/or other companies. Some overtime required and may be required to come in early or stay late beyond normal working hours. Due to the nature of the manufacturing environment, this position requires a 24 hour/ 7 days per week on call status.
