About the Opportunity

Mount Milligan is seeking a Superintendent, Metallurgy to lead the metallurgical, process engineering, and on-site assay functions to generate accurate data, maximize metal recovery, optimize plant performance, and ensure stable, efficient, and safe operation of the processing plant. This role provides technical leadership across comminution, flotation, gravity recovery, dewatering, sampling, and quantitative assaying within the mine. This role is critical to Mount Milligan's copper-gold concentrator performance, requiring strong mine-to-mill integration, ore variability understanding and management, concentrate quality control, and leadership of recovery forecasting to support safe and profitable operations.

This is a camp based position working a 7 days on/7days off schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

Metallurgical & Process Performance

  • Lead daily/weekly metallurgical monitoring to optimize throughput, recovery, concentrate grade, and reagent consumption.
  • Analyze mill KPIs (grinding performance, flotation response, gold recovery, recovery-by-size curves, etc.) and implement improvement strategies.
  • Manage metallurgical testwork programs including variability testing, reagent scheme development, grinding/circuit optimization, and geometallurgy.
  • Maintain the assaying, metallurgical balance, metal accounting systems, and reconciliation with the mill.
  • Lead metallurgical response strategies to changes in ore and mineralogy.

Technical Leadership & Strategy

  • Coordinate with corporate resources and collaboratively provide long-term strategic direction for process improvements, technology upgrades, debottlenecking, and cost reductions.
  • Contribute to metallurgical aspects of life-of-mine planning including ore blending, ore characterization, and processing forecasts.
  • Support capital project development (scope, design criteria, commissioning oversight, operational readiness).
  • Champion advanced process control, machine learning, and real-time metallurgy.
  • Drive automated KPI dashboards and decision support tools.
  • Support commercial team on concentrate performance and payable metals.

Operational Support

  • Provide coaching and support to plant operations to troubleshoot processing challenges.
  • Oversee metallurgical sampling programs, laboratory workflows, QA/QC protocols, and data integrity.
  • Ensure optimal operation of major process equipment-SAG/ball mills, crushers, flotation cells, thickeners, filters, gravity circuits, and reagents systems. Provide coaching and guidance to Mill Operations where required.
  • Provide leadership during major shutdowns, commissioning, and ramp-up.
  • Partner with Reliability to define triggers for functional failure and major component replacement.

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Compliance with BC Mines Act, environmental permits, and site safety systems.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all operational, environmental, and metallurgical standards.
  • Evaluate and mitigate metallurgical risks including ore variability, water quality, reagent changes, equipment constraints, and environmental compliance.

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead and develop a team of metallurgists, process engineers, and technicians.
  • Coordinate the delivery of technical training for operations, metallurgy, and assay teams.
  • Set departmental KPIs and monitor performance against business objectives.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Prepare and present monthly metallurgical reports to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with geology, mining, maintenance, and environmental teams to achieve integrated site objectives.
  • Liaise with external labs, technology providers, and consultants.
About You

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years' experience in mineral processing with at least 5 years in large scale (>40,000tpd) operations. Experience with copper and gold is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience in flotation concentrator operations, including recovery improvement across variable ore types and performance optimization of recovery circuits.
  • Prior leadership experience managing diverse technical teams.

Technical Competencies

  • Strong technical understanding of comminution and concentrator operations, including SAG/ball mill performance, flotation circuit optimization, recovery systems, thickening and filtration, and overall site water balance management to support stable plant performance under varying ore and water quality conditions.

  • Solid knowledge of metallurgical accounting, sampling theory, and process control strategies, including metal balance development, reconciliation with mine production, QA/QC oversight, and implementation of control methodologies to ensure data integrity, operational consistency, and reliable reporting of plant performance.

Behavioral Competencies

  • Strategic thinker with strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • High safety commitment and strong leadership presence.
