POSITION OVERVIEWResponsible for (including but not limited to) ensuring goals and KPI's for HSEC, Cost, Quality and Production are achieved for the Metallurgy area. This position also directs and manages all activities including budgeting, targets, planning, staffing, and cost control related to Metallurgy. In addition, this role provides strong leadership and mentors team members to operate in a manner consistent with company values. The position role also provides timely and accurate Metallurgical services, support and reporting for the Mill, SXEW and support departments (as required). The Superintendent also works with the Processing Manager to determine the overall strategy and plans for the department and provides expertise and direction for site metallurgy processes and practices.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES- Manage and ensure all employees are working in compliance with all Pinto Valley Mine and MSHA safety guidelines and procedures.
- Manage and ensure all employees and contractors are working in compliance with all Pinto Valley Mine standard operating procedures.
- Manage and ensure that all employees and contractors are certified to execute the tasks/jobs they are assigned.
- Maintain department compliance with local, state, federal and company standards.
- Ensure compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Build an appropriate department team through recruitment and development.
- Ensure that training is provided in accordance with the current and future needs of the department.
- Coach and mentor department team member growth and development.
- Ensure professional learning objectives of the department team members are defined and met.
- Conduct performance reviews; provide feedback and coaching for department team members.
- Develop and manage the annual departmental budget to support and achieve mine cost goals.
- Provide input and advice to the Processing Manager regarding the development and implementation of the overall department budget.
- Ensure that the required manpower and equipment are in place to achieve planned activities, while meeting budgeted costs.
- Allocate resources and define work plans to ensure activities and requirements are achieved as planned.
- Set clear expectations and work objectives which achieve business plans, department and production targets.
- Ensure timely collection of samples, accurate testing and reporting.
- Provide technical expertise, leadership and guidance to internal and external departments (as required).
- Produce daily, weekly and monthly production and/or technical reports that monitor progress vs. business objectives and budget.
- Identify potential issues and collaborate with Mine and/or Processing management to prevent, mitigate or resolve them in a real-time environment.
- Investigate and identify options and recommend short- and long-term projects and approaches to enhance efficiency and cost effectiveness of processing operations.
- Drive initiatives to optimize existing business systems, processes, practices and equipment to improve the overall performance of the function and department.
- Use SAP and Microsoft Office software to enter, update and/or research information.

KNOWLEDGE- Extensive mining & milling operations experience.
- Strong working knowledge of mineral processing methods and procedures.
- Prior experience as a Metallurgist.
- Working knowledge of the applicable legislation and regulations or mines and mineral processing plants.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS- Bachelors in Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or related degree.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in metallurgy, engineering or related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in a leadership or management role.
- Excellent computer skills; Microsoft Office.
- SAP experience a plus.
- Familiar with software used in metallurgy, lab, x-ray, etc.
- Able to speak, comprehend, read, and write English

- Frequent walking on uneven ground and around active mining areas
- Exposure to extreme weather conditions including heat, dust, and wind
- Work around heavy equipment and active operations
- Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas
