Full Job Description
We have a need for a Roadway Superintendent to manage work focused on earthwork and highway construction in the Norfolk, VA area. SUMMARY • Supervise the skilled trade crews and manage onsite construction activities for parts of large, extensive Heavy Highway/roadway projects. • Collaborating with the Project Engineer and Project Manager, this role is responsible for the direction, coordination, and evaluation of the Project, focusing on Safety, Production, and Profitability. • Supervisory responsibilities, in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws, include: planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Responsibilities may include assisting with interviewing and training employees. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following (other duties may be assigned). • Lead and manage 3 or more Foreman on conducting work safely, productively, and focusing on quality. • Set a Safety 24/7 culture for your crews. • Assists the Project Manager in creating the project schedule. • Develop 90-day and 3-week schedules for crews. • Conduct pre-planning and goal setting with crews. • Oversee costs associated with your work items. • Coordinate manpower, heavy equipment, tooling and material needs for crews. • Coordinate and schedule subcontractors. Education and Experience: • Technical experience progressing through the ranks as a Journeyman to a Foreman to a Superintendent. • 10+ years similar construction Field Management experience (preferred). • Roadway/Highway experience strongly preferred. Skills and Abilities: • Understand and interpret safety laws and company policies/standards. • Apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance. • Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards, etc. and their impact on project activity's vitals. • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, plus demonstrated ability to manage a team of varied self-performing trade disciplines. • Assemble 90-day and 3-week schedules in Microsoft Excel and use Microsoft Word for pre-planning processes. • Ability to assume responsibility, interface, and communicate effectively with others.
