The Role

Under the general direction of the Manager, Environmental Services, the Superintendent, Environmental Services efforts are concentrated in the overall direction and management of the staff of Environmental Services Facilities. Also, this position leads and facilitates in the project management of new infrastructure installations; and consults on engineering studies as part of the technical review group.

The Superintendent, Environmental Services, plans, schedules, assigns and supervises the activities concerning the Environmental Services facilities, in accordance with the Ministry of Environment, Conservation and Parks Certificate of Approval's/Environmental Compliance Approval's and Consolidated Linear Infrastructure Environmental Compliance Approvals, and provincial and federal regulations. This position also operates with broad management authority receiving limited technical guidance and subject only to overall policy and financial controls, and builds and maintains relationships with City departments, Municipal/Provincial/Federal agencies and the general public.

Qualifications

• Diploma in Environmental Technology/Environmental Compliance along with Level 3 certification in Wastewater Treatment, Level One Wastewater Collection Licence plus a minimum of five years of experience in Wastewater Administration or, an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience may be considered;
• Must be certified in Incident Management System (IMS) 200 and Confined Space Entry;
• Valid Class G driver's licence with acceptable abstract.

The Candidate
The successful candidate should possess the following experience, knowledge and competencies:

• Reading and interpreting operation and maintenance manuals, mechanical and electrical drawings, schematics and technical specifications;
• The use of personal computers and related software applications, and computerized monitoring systems such as SCADA;
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team;
• Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing;
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of statutes and regulations appropriate to the position as well as the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations;
