Position Location:

This position is located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Los Alamos is a tight-knit mountain community that consistently ranks as one of Livability.com's Best Small Towns in America. Position Summary

The Maintenance Superintendent will oversee and manage scheduling, dispatching, administrative operations, and field oversight of skilled craft personnel. The candidate will ensure that craft work is executed per the current collective bargaining agreements (CBA's) and jurisdictional settlements. A thorough understanding of skill sets, tasks, materials and tools of each craft type is essential to this role. The candidate will track and coordinate required training for all craft personnel, work as part of a team in a rapidly changing environment and help develop processes for the effective deployment of craft to maximize efficiency and productivity.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities (may include, but are not limited to):
  • Provide leadership, direction, and management of a team of up 60 specialist craft personnel. Direct daily activities through lower field execution leads (foremen/general foremen).
  • Concurrently manage multiple projects at multiple locations across the site using union craft with multiple disciplines
  • Effectively plan and resource load an integrated schedule to accomplish work effectively and efficiently
  • Improve organizational culture to ensure that all work activities are appropriately scoped, analyzed for hazards, comprehensively planned to eliminate or mitigate those hazards, effectively performed by trained employees, and performed safely and correctly.
  • Track, coordinate, and schedule subordinate employees for various training assignments
  • Maintain logs of all company owned heavy equipment and tools, including tracking preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Ability to work with little to no supervision and self-initiate assignments to subordinates.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):
  • Proven and demonstrated leadership and organizational abilities with history of demonstrated ability to lead others in high-demand situations, quickly changing environment.
  • Hold clear, concise, and thorough pre-job briefings with subordinate personnel
  • Thorough knowledge of unique access, PPE, accountability, and safety restrictions throughout the site.
  • Ability to lead a multi-disciplinary team of skilled trades with an emphasis on safety compliance, production, risk mitigation, and schedule.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop and lead large sized projects, including defining scope, objectives and methods; resource planning; integrating into a T-week process
  • Ability to train and mentor more junior staff
  • Can be viewed as an expert within a specialty and as highly competent within the broad discipline, both internally and externally
  • Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job

Education and Experience Required:

Level 1: High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) and at least 0-4 years relative experience. Per DOE O 426.2 must have High School or GED and must have 3 years of nuclear experience

Level 2: High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) and at least 4-7 years relative experience. Experience should include a minimum of 2 years supervisory responsibility. Per DOE O 426.2 must have High School or GED and must have 3 years of nuclear experience.

Education Equivalency: 2 years of relevant experience for 1 year of college.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

Assigned to perform work in an office environment and provides oversight of personnel in the field. Field hazards include heat and cold stress, noise, slips/trips/falls, etc. Only electrical hazards and other minor potential hazards normally found in an office environment are expected while work is performed in an office. Job performance requires adequate visual acuity and manual dexterity for meeting the requirements of the discipline.

Safety, Security, and Quality

While working to achieve N3B LLCC objectives, the Maintenance Superintendent will ensure all activities and operations are performed in a safe and deliberate manner to include protecting the confidentiality and integrity of Personally Identifiable Information (PII). This role will maintain required safety, security and operational training; assure procedural and regulatory compliance; and make safety, security and quality an integral part of every task; including taking the necessary steps to stop work if continuing the job is unsafe or compromises security.
