Responsibilities

The Subsidiary Director of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) provides strategic, technical, and operational leadership for the NDT practice across the subsidiary. This role is responsible for the growth, quality, and consistency of NDT services, including technical standards, staff development, financial performance, and client relationships. The Subsidiary Director works closely with Department Managers, Branch Managers, technical leaders, and executive leadership to drive business performance, ensure excellence in service delivery, and position the organization as a market leader in non-destructive testing while demonstrating ECS Core Values.

Responsibilities

Practice Leadership & Strategy
  • Defines and executes strategy for the NDT practice across the region
  • Aligns practice goals with company objectives and market opportunities
  • Identifies growth opportunities and expands service offerings
  • Establishes best practices, procedures, and consistency across departments

People Leadership
  • Leads and develops Department Managers and senior staff
  • Provides coaching, mentorship, and leadership oversight
  • Drives accountability for departmental performance and results
  • Builds leadership bench strength and succession planning

Technical & Quality Oversight
  • Ensures technical consistency and quality across all NDT services
  • Establishes and enforces inspection methodologies and standards
  • Partners with senior technical leaders on quality control and certification requirements\Supports resolution of complex technical or inspection challenges

Financial & Operational Management
  • Oversees financial performance across multiple departments (revenue, margins, utilization, backlog)
  • Develops and manages practice budgets and forecasts
  • Monitors KPIs and drives operational performance improvement
  • Ensures effective staffing and resource allocation
  • Supports pricing strategies, proposals, and profitability

Client & Business Development
  • Leads strategic client relationships and major accounts
  • Drives market presence and competitive positioning of NDT services
  • Supports major pursuits, proposals, and contract negotiations
  • Expands the client base and strengthens long-term partnerships

Cross-Functional & Organizational Leadership
  • Collaborates with other service line leaders (Geotechnical, CMT, etc.)
  • Integrates NDT services into multidisciplinary projects
  • Supports enterprise-level strategy and growth initiatives
  • Represents NDT services in leadership and executive forums

Safety, Compliance, & Risk Management
  • Promotes and enforces a strong safety culture across all operations
  • Ensures compliance with applicable codes, standards, and certifications
  • Manages operational and project risk across the practice
  • Drives continuous improvement in quality and operational performance

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • 12 years of related experience
  • High school diploma or GED required
    • Bachelor's or Master's in Civil Engineering preferred
  • Maintain basic, multi-method Level II certifications and one advanced NDT method
    • Obtain an external certification, such as AWS CWI or API 653, or a certification as an ASNT Level III
    • Obtain any additional certifications based on the service line needs.
  • If driving for or on behalf of any ECS subsidiary, a valid driver's license is required
  • Experience managing multiple teams, departments, or offices
  • Proven leadership in operations, business development, and technical delivery
  • Experience overseeing multi-office or regional operations
  • Established reputation in geotechnical engineering and client development
  • Strong strategic leadership and business acumen
  • Advanced understanding of NDT services, inspection methodologies, and industry standards
  • Ability to lead leaders (Department Managers, Senior PMs, Technical Leads)
  • Strong financial expertise (multi-unit P&L, forecasting, performance metrics)
  • Proven business development and market expansion capabilities
  • Deep technical understanding of NDT techniques (UT, RT, MT, PT, VT, etc.)
  • Ability to standardize processes and scale operations across teams
  • Excellent communication, influence, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to build and grow high-performing teams
