REPORTS TO: Vice President Austal Advanced Technologies

SUPERVISES: Buyers, Coordinators

GENERAL PURPOSE AND SCOPE: 

Leads Austal Advanced Technologies (AAT) SCM team including various functions of sourcing, delivery assurance, purchasing and material planning. The AAT supply chain team is responsible for the performance of its suppliers. For that reason, this position has direct responsibility for the SCM team’s performance including 100% on-time delivery, on-budget procurement costs and driving cost savings and delivered quality performance of the supply chain. This position supports material program management estimates at completion (EAC) reviews and material forecasting. This position interfaces vertically and horizontally across all functions within Austal and regularly interfaces with department leads and program leadership.

AUTHORITIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and supervise the full supply chain operations for Austal Advanced Technologies.

  • Responsible for material planning, sourcing (local to service centers) and make versus buy decisions. Subcontract management and logistics functions are cross matrixed to this position.

  • Assure the identification, development, and qualification of suppliers in sufficient capacity and capabilities. Responsible for cost, schedule, quality and technical performance of all Austal service suppliers.

  • Recommend new strategies, policies and procedures for continuously improved supply chain activities.

  • Using IFS fully, manage the material requirements planning (MRP) process to ensure sufficient inventory to meet all production/shipping requirements at lowest cost.

  • Oversee the implementation of a risk-based assessment of the supply chain and develop sourcing, procurement, and inventory management strategies to ensure continuity of supply for critical raw materials.

  • Monitor and continuously improve supplier performance and visit/audit suppliers as necessary.

  • Support make vs. buy recommendations.

  • Supplier compliance management including but not limited to legal, ethical, and environmental compliance.

  • Serve as the supply chain interface to the program and aligning integrated supply chain resources and solutions with the business needs.

  • Ensure timely issue resolution for program requirements and issues.

  • Ensure effective supplier execution in alignment with program reviews.

  • Represent supply chain and provide input at customer reviews, EAC reviews, program reviews, and risk and opportunity management.

  • Identify, investigate and provide profitable/strategic solutions regarding potential risks/opportunities.

  • Supplier management, including forecasting, cost/schedule and quality management performance metrics, supplier assessments, sourcing strategies and proposal activity.

  • Drive cross functional engagements and collaborate with the program team.

  • Develop and maintain a material program plan (MPP) and provide support to the business across the supply chain development, production and sustainment lifecycle.

  • Communicate effectively and routinely on integrated supply chain performance to the program and executive team.

  • Responsible for development and calculation of non-labor costs including bill of material analysis, costing, and planning.

  • Other responsibilities include development of innovative cost models, providing material status, requisition review, and financial support for production management and the program office as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS / KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Technology, Supply Chain Management, or Operations.

  • Eight (8) years’ direct applicable experience in managing supply chain processes using integrated ERP systems and two (2) years managing personnel.

  • Well versed in FAR/DFARS compliance requirements as applied to government contractor purchasing processes (e.g. SBSPs).

  • Experienced in analysis of and mitigation of risks on various contract terms and conditions.

  • Familiar with vendor managed inventory systems.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite with near-expert skills in Excel.

  • MBA with emphasis in Supply Chain Management desired.

  • Certified Supply Chain Professional (APICS CSCP) or Certified Professional in Supply Management (ISM CPSM) credentials desired.

  • Proficiency in EVMS software desired.

DIRECTION EXERCISED: Full discretionary authority to assign work, supervise subordinate team members.

ADDITIONAL GUIDELINES:

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance may be required if deemed necessary in the scope of responsibilities.
