POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Superintendent - Structural

REPORTS TO: Production Manager

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

PAY RANGE: $115,000.00-$150,000.00 Annually DOE

FT / PT STATUS: Full Time

LOCATION: Varies

SUMMARY

Responsible for overseeing all aspects of structural projects, including planning, execution, safety compliance, and workforce management. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality standards. Coordinates with shipyard personnel, subcontractors, and internal teams to maintain smooth operations in structural team work including welding, fabricating, pipe fitting, testing, inpecting, ship-fitting, and other steel worker trades' work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, organize, and supervise all phases of assigned structural projects.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Monitor project progress and adjust resources as needed to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain accurate records of timesheets, budgets, and project documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with shipyard management and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide leadership, training, and performance feedback to team members.
  • Implement inspection checklists and quality control measures IAW policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate subcontractors to ensure compliance with project specifications, timelines, and safety standards.
  • Oversee welding and fitting operations for hull repairs, structural modifications, and new installations.
  • Manage SHIPALTS and structural repairs to U.S. Navy, Commercial, and other marine vessels.
  • Ensure work aligns with engineering drawings and OQE requirements for nuclear Navy projects, as assigned.
  • Coordinate structural inspections and collaborate with engineering teams for repair solutions.
  • Ensure all fire safety programs are adhered to at all times by all personnel. Management of hot work is essential to ensure safety at all times.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
  • Oversees Foremen and production staff, the number of which varies according to the project, but may exceed 25 people, ensuring adherence to company policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include hiring recommendations, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.

  • Strong knowledge of marine industry and structural practices.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in structural/steel/mechanical field/fabrication/pipefitting.
  • Prior management/supervisory experience strongly preferred


WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Regularly exposed to dusty conditions, extreme temperatures, high noise level, outdoor weather conditions, wet and/or humid conditions, hazardous machinery, confined spaces
  • Often works on scaffolds and ladders for long periods of time
  • Travel often required
  • Shift work and overtime involved most of the time
  • Risk of injury to self and/or others due to electric shock, falls and cuts
  • Stamina required; frequently required to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, and crawl
  • Required to reach with hands and arms, use hands to feel, grip or handle; regularly required to lift and/or move heavy objects
  • Required to use vision for up close, distant and peripheral inspections

  • Computer, telephone, fax machine, copy machine, adding machine, scanner
  • Industrial and marine equipment required for onsite project management
